What's new

New Europe routes

America West tried that with A-320's and failed. I doubt they want to try that again so soon.

No one else really connects in PHL, it's US's hub so they have the problem.

Is Aer Lingus really going to add PHL? They are like US Airways in that they are not sitting on a whole lot of widebodies to throw around. I'd be surprised if they choose to compete with US who is already established rather than start a route with no competition instead, or resume Baltimore which is probably more lucrative. Aer Lingus only serves JFK, BOS, ORD, and LAX. I'd think PHL would be pretty far down thier list.

Of course EI want to get into PHL, U.S only operates
a summer service DUB-PHL, EI will probably blow it out of
the water as they will operate the service year round and will get returning customers for that reason. Ireland should be served year round, but maybe U.S like giving away there business too easily to other carriers!
EI have been trying to get into PHL for years but have been blocked due to open skies, not from november tho

It failed as they was no connecting traffic to feed the flights, UA, DL and AA fly 757s, 767s and 777s from East to West Coast, what do you think the business traveler wants to fly on?

This business traveler will choose the widebody jet over a narrow body jet everytime. I avoid my hometown airline, Continental, on certain European routes for that very reason. Im not a fan of 757's going over the pond.

Also US needs a presence in the Transcon flights from Cities like JFK to LAX and SFO, BOS to the westcoast even IAD, with 757s or 767s and become a real airline instead of a Regional Airline like US really is.

With all due respect, I don't think that this is where US needs to be headed at this time. While I think US might have a chance at BOS, JFK and IAD have never been big for US. We don't have a product that can compete w/ UA's ps service and we don't need to start a farewar w/ B6. I would like to see more transcon flights from PHL, especially to LAX (only 4 flights this summer!) and SFO and possibly some new ones like SJC and SNA

I would think that JFK, BOS and IAD to the west coast are bigger markerts then PHL to the west coast.

Why not? What makes a 757 twin jet any different from a 767, 777 or A330 other than two aisles. The seats aren't any different.

They are mainly because of the O&D. US could probably take on BOS, but there's probably little money to be made there.

PHL transcons, according to DP, are some of the less profitable routes US operates.

I'm 100% for Asia, but we need the equipment!

Flights to Japan, Taiwan, China, Thailand, Malaysia, Korea and Hong Kong would be great.
I have waited my whole career for it! I thought we were very close with the merger with UA, and then with our CRAF flying. When I did CRAF, there were US carriers in europe that were flying missions to Korea. I hope it will be a possibility for US Airways in the not too distant future.

I guess most of you forget US was awarded the PIT-NRT route and we did not have a plane to fly it and ALPA would not allow a dry lease until US got a plane.

I remember Narita. I also remember the wet lease with BA for PIT-Ghana. We were all ready to get the anti-malarial shots.

We did the wet lease from PIT, PHL and CLT if I remember correctly and it was to Gatwick.

Are you saying that BA, AF, LH, etal. is ALL PHL O&D? Answer: No. There are a lot of regional connections from these flights, however I do agree, they are insignificant to US.

The CEO of Air Lingus has stated in the press that he does not plan to (re)start BWI. The cities they most favor are SFO, MIA and PHL. PHL (may or may not) be delayed until open skies is resolved. PHL-DUB is a heavily traveled and profitable route and could support 2 carriers. Remember there is such a thing as "home country pride" - look at BOS.

We never flew BOS to LGW.

I know PIT and CLT were definate wet lease, I am pretty sure PHL was also as we had three 767s painted in BA's colors for the wet lease.

BOS had FRA when they moved it from CLT but it failed and moved it back to CLT.
