New Flight Attendant Training

Having dedicated people has nothing to do with a crappy rsv system. I've flown U as a non-rev for quite some time and i have seen some of the most dedicated people out there in ANY airline, put up with SO much and then after (anything over 20 years is a+) so many years get tossed back into RSV and THEN only work 40 hrs. a month.

Is this how it will be on the west (or even the East in the long run) ??? Can anyone answer that?? I'll be da*ned to move over a thousand miles anywhere to sit RSV and get no hours. Tell me people! What's it all bout???

Just give me tha truth man

PS> US ROCKS (both west and east) Thank You!

I called the Union and they confirmed it. There will be classes starting in March.
As far as Reserves at US west, believe me...they get hours. My friend who is on reserve had 140 hours last month.
He picked up from EBT and volunteered fly. I guess our schedules are more flexible that yours. Maybe once the unions integrate the contracts, you'll get more hours. I'm not sure about Vegas though, it's our most junior base. We're starting service to hawaii from there, so they'll probably get most of the vegas deadheads from there since it will be a late night.

So then we should expect a recall letter soon? I have not heard anything yet today. Hopefully they will tell us something soon. There are 190 of us at the emb-170 division that are getting ready to get re-furloughed.

Any idea how many are interested in going to PHX?
I guess it will be forever before they recall again to the "east" side. What would have to happen before they would recall there?

From talking with the union and others that are waiting for call back it looks as though the training will be a shorten version. A number of MDA F/A from PIT have no desire to commute to PHX for work. 99-09 class has a handful that passed the first call back to mainline in total there maybe about 20 of us who will go to PHX. It looks as though anyone from the year 99 will be in the first 2 training classes that are held. 😀

I have been told the training will be the full 7 weeks since we are under separate operating certificates. One bad point... management would not budge in providing hotel rooms during the training. At US East we got hotel rooms and no pay for the 6 weeks and at US West they got minimal pay but had to find their own accommodations. And when I went though US Air training we had 7-8 aircraft types and our training was a long 6 weeks which included EOW operations! AW has 3 and there's is 7 weeks? What on earth are they doing for that long? And these flight attendants sitting through this training are learning 3 aircraft that they were already certified on. Seems a little silly.

Management never provided us with hotels during our 7 weeks training either. So what? Also 7 weeks is nothing... It used to be 8 weeks. You are making assumptions that they are only learning 3 aircrafts. How do you know that? Are you in training? You should just be grateful and stop complaining.

Honey,
I learned the dc-9, f-100, 737 300-400, 757, 767, md-80, A 319, A-320, A321, A330 in six weeks, to have seven weeks for 3 types is absurd this isn't brain surgery, you olks need to get real with the seven weeks, that is absurd, you probably would have died if you had to go through USAir initial - it will be a breeze guys, just look at them smile and remember YOU ARE THE REAL USAir!!!!

Read about it in the

This is good advice for dealing with west InFlight training.
Initial did seem long for three aircraft types. However they did point out several times that it is tightly regulated by the FAA.

Ha. Then I became very familiar with the phrase "...and how do we feel about that?"

IpourNotCan:

You sure are pleasant from your tone 🙄
I know a lot more than you think and this came straight from the source. I'm mainline US East so this doesn't affect me directly but it does affect a lot of my friends. I know how many a/c types AW has...AB /737 and 757 for a total of 3. AW had traditionally hired from around the PHX area for flight attendants and therefore housing during training was not an issue. I assure you not providing a hotel or dorm is NOT the industry standard! Going forward when the two companies recruit new hire flight attendants AFA is going to press them to provide hotel or dorm style housing and forgo the pay. It's not all about PHX anymore and we recruit in MIA, LAX, SEA, NYC, BOS and so forth. Just another example of how two cultures come together and sometimes don't mix.

On an interesting side note, AmericaWest has never paid for lodging of its New Hire F/A's. If I remember correctly about 19 years ago when I interviewed with them the training program lasted 5.5 months and no lodging was provided....to be a F/A (or what they called a CSR) with America West back then you also had to throw bags and work the ticket counter and reservation system too...hence 5.5 months of training! I turned down the offer for a job because there was no way I could afford to relocate to PHX and sign a 6 month lease on an apartment just to go through New Hire Training! Not to mention how low their starting pay was back then too! So if it's left up to US/West to call the shots on training, there won't be any lodging provided. That should dwindle down the number of recalls from US/East!

If the f/as are recalled from us east will they not be protected with the use f/a contract untill they become uswest emp at the end of training.

Yep, our training is longer than most. We tend to give you the 'whys" and not just say...do it!

We also give you hands on time on each a/c along with an IOE/OJT for each a/c.

The classroom time is 6 weeks, with the 7th week being the IOE/OJT flying and graduation.

I would believe that once the airlines are fully merged, a hotel will PROBABLY be provided. The luxury of only hiring for 2 bases will be gone!

Wow, superstewardess. Can I have your autograph? Seriously.

7 Weeks or 6 weeks is nothing compared to what we went through. We were the fast track training (because we were all ground who transferred to inflight). Our training was a short intense 3 weeks training of 737-200,737-100,737-300,757s,A320,A319s and we only 1 OJT which was 737. We did nothing, but eat, sleep and take tests! We would study in the morning and then take tests in the afternoon everyday!!! It was intense and stressful and I'm glad they made it longer and it's now 7 weeks. I heard recurrent is good this year.
