According to the article it appears that it will be CDG, but US wouldnt confirm.

Parle vous Francais, little gnome? The fries might not be the only thing French you are dealing with soon. 😛h34r:

Does that mean the French will soon get a mouthful of "Texas Toast"?

No, it means that you will be getting a mouthfull of Crow. Based on some of the posts over on the DL & NW boards, it looks as if Deltaland is in for some rough weather. Why is it that you haven't got the nerve to post in any of those heated topics going on over there bagboy??? I see that you lurk, but are as quiet as a mouse. Are you afriad that they will eat you alive, or has that already happend? Can't imagine a DL ramper being so focued on US, that he can't get involved when his own house is on fire. Payback time is just around the corner.

I am just curious here and please don't slam me as this is a real question. Why are you CLT based employees so excited about getting CDG back? Yes it's nice but wouldn't you guys rather have a new destination added to Europe or better yet South America Like Rio in Brazil or Buenos Aries?

Would be nice to see US add something to South America at some point.

I would venture to see South America routes (deep ones, at least) after more 332s are delivered. Doing any of those now from CLT would take away from PHL TA flying.

I think CLT, though technically USAirways' largest hub, is tired of living in the shadow of PHL with its "glamor" of all those European destinations. (Did I really just use the words "glamor" and "PHL" in the same sentence???)

Anything that gets CLT out of the Fayettville, Greenville/Spartanburg rut is a welcome change.

It could also be LHR or FCO.

Doubtful, IMHO. Do we even have a LHR slot/gate available to us? FCO from CLT would necessarily have to use an A330 (which we don't have) unless they wanted to run a 767 mostly empty every day due to the inability of that aircraft to carry the fuel necessary with a reasonably full load of passengers.

US Airways Reconnects The Queen City to The City of Light

CLT-CDG Returns After Nearly Eight-Year Hiatus

Oct. 30, 2008

Customers and employees will once again have access to Paris’ Charles De Gaulle airport through our largest hub (by daily flights) at CLT!

We’re set to provide daily seasonal service between The Queen City and The City of Light beginning April 21, 2009. As you know, we currently serve London’s Gatwick Airport (LGW) and Frankfurt International Airport (FRA) from CLT and also codeshare with Lufthansa on Munich (MUC) service from Charlotte.

This nonstop service will be operated with Boeing 767 aircraft with seating for 18 in Envoy class and 186 in the main cabin. The flying goes on sale Nov. 8 at usairways.com and through other sales channels. Schedule detail is as follows:

In a press release issued today, Chairman and CEO Doug Parker said, “We are thrilled to announce that Charlotte will once again have a third trans-Atlantic option on US Airways. With Charlotte-Paris service, our 2009 trans-Atlantic operation will number 27 daily flights serving 23 destinations. Today’s announcement comes as a result of strong partnership from Charlotte Mayor Patrick McCrory and Charlotte Director of Aviation Jerry Orr. We thank Pat and Jerry for their continued support.â€

CLT-CDG FAQs

Why did we decide to do this?

Both FRA and LGW were successful in the extremely high fuel cost environment this summer from CLT. The hub provides great domestic feed and the local community supports the hometown airline quite well. That’s a good recipe for growing international service.

Yes, but doesn’t fleet availability factor into these decisions?

Absolutely. International fleet growth in 2009 makes this possible. CLT-CDG has been an opportunity we’ve considered for some time and now we will make that possible. You’ll recall that we’re adding A330-200s and 757 ETOPS aircraft to the international fleet next year.

Why Paris?

Paris is the second-largest European destination for U.S. travelers. Moreover, we believe that fuel cost reductions will cancel out potential demand slowdown driven by any economic softness.

This message was sent to all employees.

Please post for those without access to company email.

Good and correct post.

US to anywhere Europe is way too little too late. And US does not have the equipment or brassones to go any further. Yeah, TLV will be very short-lived.

Now CLT to anywhere South America is a lucrative option.

But similar to GM wasting time & resources on acquiring Chrysler (taking your eye off the ball there, eh Rick Wagoner??) USair should be firts focusing on becoming profitable on their bread & butter markets.

All this other stuff is just a life-threatening distraction.

(any bets on when, not if, GM and USair perish if they keep up this silly behavior?0

any truth about delta taking over airfrance's phl-cdg route next summer using a 757?

Much of deep South America is subject to restrictive bilateral treaties limiting the number of airlines and flights.

France, on the other hand, is Open Skies, meaning anyone can fly there from anywhere.

Besides, China is highly resticted (and coveted) yet US chose not to initiate service when allowed to. What makes you think US would actually initiate service to EZE or GIG if it were given rights to fly there?

I'm trying to verify that. The rumor is not substantiated by any booking systems. You can still book AF 365/366 - an A330 all through next year, however it may be a bit early to assume the summer schedules are firm. Also, I really can't see DL wasting any aircraft type, including their etops 757's on a PHL-CDG flight, which will compete head on for O&D with the US 333 and have virtually no connecting feed. I mean it's not as if the current AF passengers are going to be satisfied with DL any more than with US on this route - other than possible alliance considerations.

I'm afraid you don't really understand the international market place and it's importance to US Airways survival. First PHL-TLV will likely be one of the company's most profitable international routes - for both passenger and cargo yields. It will not only be supported by O&D and businesses from the 4th largest Jewish community in America and access to the huge NY/NJ Jewish immigrant population, but by significant connecting traffic potential. Second, which routes do you feel are US's (and most other legacy carriers) most profitable? Answer: Trans- Atlantic. The only scenario that would be "life-threatening" would be if US reduced international flying, rather than growing it. On what basis do you feel CLT to South America - an 8000+nm round trip, is a "lucrative" option? Does CLT have sufficient local Brazilian or Argentinian O&D to offset the low yielding connecting traffic to those countries? PHL would be questionable even assuming it could draw O&D from the NYC/Northern NJ area. Ever wonder why CO doesn't fly non-stop from EWR to either GIG or EZE? If you are looking for ways to ensure the company's survival - the easy answer is to reduce costs by 20% to line up with its competitors, not to increase low yielding domestic or international flying. CLT-CDG will likely be successful as a seasonal route, however, if it's not, you can bet that 762 will be pulled very quickly - unless it gets subsidies from Charlotte.

Kind of like AA didnt initate their service to China as well Huh FWAAA??? US isnt the only one.. Hows number 2 treating you?

AA flies to PVG...flt 289
Not talking about PVG...

while we're at it:

Northwest delayed as well, and DL is reducing ATL- PVG.

I remember there was a lengthy thread on the AA board when US applied to defer service. The AA'ers said that US should be stripped of China rights immediately, US doesn't deserve it, blah blah. A week later, AA filed to defer its newly awarded service as well.
