It would seem that the positive comments here demonstrate that this forum is not a bash fest. More like group therapy perhaps?
I'll say it straight up, I've been in the old crew rooms and I've seen kennels cleaner and better appointed. The fact that US took the time to do this right does say something that is very positive.
Old attitudes die hard and trust arrives on foot and leaves on a jet plane. This is a good step in the right direction for US management and employees to start the process of rebuilding trust and I'm happy for all the employees who had to endure in those god awful rooms.
I have to applaud US on this as it will make for happier employees who in the end will make for happier customers and how can that be bashing?
I can speak from my own personal experience when it comes to the cleaniness of a "break" area. How clean and tidy a break area is speaks volumes about primarily these things: Employee morale and employee hygiene standards (laziness), or poor attitude such as "I don't give a crap about who else might use this area" attitude.
Employers provide break areas and how well the break areas are equipped varies on many factors, but the overall cleaniness is upto the users. Some people are very considerate of others and pick up after themselves, and some are just pigs period and could give a rip about who is going to use the area next. One only has to look as far as an employee "designated smoking area" as the perfect example. I smoke and never throw my butts on the ground. I put them in my pocket before throwing them on the ground. But, there are some, who flick them on the ground to let somebody else pick up there mess. That crap didn't happen in the military...they'd get a freakin' slap upside the head and be told to pick up their butt.
So, I'm not sure the cleaniness of a break area is necessarily upto the employer, but it can be an indication of poor morale (which the employer is responsible for),poor hygienic standards, or just plain old flithy pigs who don't care about anybody else or any combination of the above. Pretty simple really. Look at an employers break room and you can tell alot about the people working for them, and tell something about management and how proactive they are in either addressing morale or discipline issues.
