What's new

new PHL crewroom opens tomorrow (3/16) at 9am!

It would seem that the positive comments here demonstrate that this forum is not a bash fest. More like group therapy perhaps?

I'll say it straight up, I've been in the old crew rooms and I've seen kennels cleaner and better appointed. The fact that US took the time to do this right does say something that is very positive.

Old attitudes die hard and trust arrives on foot and leaves on a jet plane. This is a good step in the right direction for US management and employees to start the process of rebuilding trust and I'm happy for all the employees who had to endure in those god awful rooms.

I have to applaud US on this as it will make for happier employees who in the end will make for happier customers and how can that be bashing?

I can speak from my own personal experience when it comes to the cleaniness of a "break" area. How clean and tidy a break area is speaks volumes about primarily these things: Employee morale and employee hygiene standards (laziness), or poor attitude such as "I don't give a crap about who else might use this area" attitude.

Employers provide break areas and how well the break areas are equipped varies on many factors, but the overall cleaniness is upto the users. Some people are very considerate of others and pick up after themselves, and some are just pigs period and could give a rip about who is going to use the area next. One only has to look as far as an employee "designated smoking area" as the perfect example. I smoke and never throw my butts on the ground. I put them in my pocket before throwing them on the ground. But, there are some, who flick them on the ground to let somebody else pick up there mess. That crap didn't happen in the military...they'd get a freakin' slap upside the head and be told to pick up their butt.

So, I'm not sure the cleaniness of a break area is necessarily upto the employer, but it can be an indication of poor morale (which the employer is responsible for),poor hygienic standards, or just plain old flithy pigs who don't care about anybody else or any combination of the above. Pretty simple really. Look at an employers break room and you can tell alot about the people working for them, and tell something about management and how proactive they are in either addressing morale or discipline issues.

The lack of overall cleanliness did not refer to crew clutter and dirt caused by not cleaning but rather from age and lack of maintenance/upkeep. Think worn out furniture, rotting carpet, damaged ceiling tiles, that sort of thing.

we went from a dirty dumpster crew room with broken chairs to an insane asylum. Bellevue hospital in ny has more color on the walls and where are the stirrups? put some color on those walls and pictures!

LOL it is bright in there isn't it!

I am with you a little color (not blue) on the walls would be a little easier on the eyes.

It's an improvement but what I noticed was the small elevator. It holds 2 people with 2 bags and that's it. The line was 10 deep any given point for the elevator so I used the steps. It's not like B6 was. If they are boarding out of B16 you have to chop the line in half to gain access the stairs banging everyone in sight with your bags and the stairs are narrow. I agree to the color and where is the TVs we were promised and wiFi?

Several people that know and ask inflight. I know wifi was said earlyon but who really knows. The "flat screens" are "on the way" so they say. Did Yarko not tell you guys that? Imagine.

That should be the airline slogan US Airways.......Just Chill. Maybe to boost Envoy?

We squeezed 5 people and bags into it the other day. 3 with full bags and 2 day tripers.

Ok, I am PHX based F/A and have to ask: What is a crew room? We don't have them here...

Your pilots have a crew room, I've been there, more than once. I saw FAs going to a different area but did not follow.

Yes, the west PILOTS have a very nice crew room in PHX, complete with TV's, full size lockers, showers, computers just for internet access, couches, recliners etc.

The FA's don't. We have a check-in room with small round tables and chairs on one side of the room where we check-in and brief. The other side of the room has check-in computers. The inflight bubble is in that room too. Now, we do have a hot reserve/crew break room with 3 or 4 really disgusting broken recliners and a few couches. The area is small. When you lift the cushions on the couches you can see all the bugs (silverfish are what they are called, I think). All are stained with rips and such. There is one table with 4 chairs. There is a newish TV (not flat screen!), better that the old one that was so old fashioned you changed the channels manually (a la 1970 style). There is another room with vending machines (3) and a "fridge". The "fridge" is not even a refrigerator. It is one of those glass case things used is stores to sell soda pop with the full size glass front door. Says COKE on the side. Somedays it's plugged in and working, some days it isn't. The microwave is tiny, super old and GROSS. There are 2 tables and on a good day maybe 4 chairs total. We share this lovely space with the gate agents. I'm not saying our area is any worse that other crew bases, but DO NOT for one second think our area is anywhere as nice as the pilots. It isn't and we can't go down there anyway. You have to swipe your badge and only pilot badges open the door...don't get me started on the dirty looks you get if you do manage to get down there. I went down there to drop off a jacket left on an a/c. 2 people stopped me to ask what I was doing in "their" area. Next time, I'll leave the jacket on the a/c, jeez...but I digress.

Quite the ramble. Sorry.

Congrats to the PHL crews for finally getting to use a new clean room!

I know what you mean about the dirty looks.

Perhaps a suggestion, "the squeaky wheel gets the grease"?
