Next Big Thing in Oct- Merged Topics

With all this talk about mergers, selling and buying all or part of airlines .Some things have been bothering me.
Hub's in their own right are not assets , the facilities are ,the aircraft are, the slots at ORD/DCA/LGA/JFK. etc, International traffic rights , are assets. If US went under tomorrow, another carrier(s) would step in to take up any slack , maybe eventually building hubs where ours currently are.

Regarding too much capacity. There seems to be no shortage of fools willing to dump money down the lav thinking they can build something different. How many start-ups has the industry seen in the last 10yrs? how many are still around? Only difference nowadays is they dont start up with some other airline's old equipment , they're armed with the newest 737NG's / A320's.

Gordon Bethune had a good team of support people under him- they came with the PI/US merger. However everything that PI came with was pillaged and suddely didnt work. Why? Someone felt they reinvented the wheel, it almost cost us the company back then.

ironcially as someone else so perfectly put it , US is a great company in search of a great leader.. sound familiar?

I think what Usairways sits on here is an absolute goldmine. We simply don't have anyone nor have we with the brains to capitalize on it. We have such a presence in BOS, LGA, DCA, PHL and a big operation down south in CLT. Now I'm speaking of the east portion since that is the busiest corridor in the world. We should be able with no problems (under crafty management) to operate an incredible powerhouse of an airline. Do we? Of course not, we run and hide from our competitors all the time. We won't even go head to head with anyone to defend what we have. You always hear with other airlines like AA or NW that they are not to be messed with. You fly a route into one of their hubs and they will add larger jets and on the hour. We pull out and hide. It drives me crazy. I don't think US will be left without a dance partner in any kind of consolidation. We have waaaaay too much to offer.

Indeed. and we do have people capitalizing on it, the lessors and other categories of "stakeholders" that are raking in the revenues, barely reduced by the smallest of cost margins in the industry.

All one has to do is ask oneself; Self? how can a company "lose money" for fifteen years, yet still remain in business?

Then see how marginally competent management groups have parlayed these apparent losses into motivating the employees to, for the most part, voluntarily give up major parts of their compensation packages. to "save" the company. like as if it is in the employees abilities to "save" a company, a play on the misconception that various employee groups brought down companies, Eastern, steel industry, auto industry, etc. and so on. Sorry, it was management in every case.

As one executive told me, there can be giant differences between managing an airline (a la PI) and managing cash flow. One requires hard, honest work, the other only requires the ability to lie like at Enron.
 
Back on topic....seems something big is a brewing. Commuted on AWA and f/a's said rumor is DP will soon DPart. In addition a certain something was to happen on Sept 21 and it has been haulted since a big announcement will be out regarding a split up of the company. Guys in red lanyards know that story.

I've ALWAYS suspected Something was UP in The Batcave but More Information, please....... and as far as the Guys in Red lanyards are you sure you aren't confused with the dudes in White Coats assembling outside the Sandcastle to enter the compound and REMOVE the Nut cases? :lol:
 
I wonder what is really going down. Something is up and I just can't wait to hear what it is. IF Doug were to leave who in hell would replace him? KIRBY? We might as well shut down tomorrow. 🙄 Oooooooh cakes and pies if he left too.

Something is brewing......waaay too quiet considering the state of this floundering operation. Hopefully there is a Rainbow in the distance, whether it is breaking up this dysfunctional mess or whatnot. Things can't continue the way they are and WE can ALL (East or West) thank Tempe for what THEY have created.
 
Isn't THAT the truth. It's simply a nail biter. I would love to be a fly on the wall. Parker even looks different these days despite losing a few pounds and cutting his hair. With matters as serious as they are around here YES they sure are quiet. Then again BUSH isn't out on the Whitehouse lawn signing autographs either. :lol:

What an asinine statement. Hey, alls quiet here, something MUST be up. Do you use tarot cards or a crystal ball. Do the hairs on your neck stand up, or does your butt itch. Did you ever think alls quiet, because nothings up. Nobody needs to read your wish list. If you have any facts, let's hear them, otherwise, go away.
