I believe that the "east side" of the company could easily make their case with some of the "west side" pilots by simply telling the story of life in 2 bankruptcies and how ALPA gave the company everything on a silver platter, despite protests from the voting majority.

Seniority issues aside, I feel that the West group is a very intellectual group and would probably be more apt to "kick ALPA to the curb" if they saw the injustices done to the east group....

Guess you forget the East Pilots never met a concession they did not ratify.

They only have themselves to blame.

http://biz.yahoo.com/ap/080220/delta_northwest.html?.v=9 Can you believe this two APLO carriers at odds, go figure

It's like the two pilot groups that may end up USAPA at odds. Is there anyone in the know that can tell me when the USAPA road show out in PHX will be so that the West can have the same opportunity to learn about the products that will be offered (i.e. aeromedical, insurance)? It would be nice to get some face time too with the attorneys who will represent this fractured pilot group if there is a change in the CBA. C'mon USAPA you really need to get it together if you want the appearance of representing West and East equally!

This was from the Feb 9th phone message:
We are tentatively considering the last week of February for the next Road Show, which will tentatively be held in PHX. As your USAPA Officers and volunteers are still required to fly full schedules, the exact timing of the Road Show has yet to be determined.

They did the same thing for PHL and CLT. About 2 to 3 weeks out there will be a firm date.

US Airways Pilots to Decide on Union

US Airways Pilots to Decide Whether to Oust Union

PHOENIX (AP) -- Almost three years after US Airways combined with America West Airlines, the carrier continues to have trouble merging its work force.
The latest setback came Tuesday when the federal National Mediation Board called an election that will give US Airways pilots a chance to pick a new union. The election halts negotiations between the Air Line Pilots Association and management over a joint pilot contract.

While lack of an agreement among pilots is unlikely to derail a merger, it might push back announcing it by a day or two to give them a bit more time to sort out their differences. At stake are seniority and pay, calculated differently at each airline, and melding the two would heighten competition in the cockpit for plum routes.

If they know whats good for them they'll figure it out before it's too far committed.

Council 90 UPDATE

Tuesday, February 19, 2008
Fellow Pilots,

We will be hosting another Informational Briefing at the CLT airport Thursday, February 21, from 10:00 am until 3:00 pm in the conference room behind the Charlotte Business Center on the main level of the terminal in the food court. We have invited John Prater to talk with our pilots. Also, we will have representatives from our Three Man Delegation that has just completed the 10 Day lockdown. Other national officers and local ALPA representatives will be there as well.

This ought to be real interesting.

ALPA "leaders" go to CLT repeatedly for "save ALPA" rallys... Is Prater afraid of being tarred and feathered in PHL? Or is he mistakenly think he is lending credibility to the clowns of CLT that are afraid of a recall vote?

Aside from the circus that these guys with oversize shoes are bringing to CLT... are they requiring the CLT reps to face the recall like men or are they just gonna come to CLT and do their highwire act?

ALPA's constitution and bylaws tempts the leaders to meddle and manipulate... and they do that with vigor.

Even after all this "special care" that ALPA is inserting against the will of the pilots there are still some half-bright bulbs in the pack that cling to the idea that Nic is the reason that ALPA is walking the plank.

In the famous words that Benjamin Franklin spoke to his detractors...

"The past sucks and is not an option. Are you brain dead?"

Yes, and talks were doing so well before the Nic award was put out.

Son;
Fat, drunk and stupid is no way to go through a aviation career (sorry, I couldn't resist the chance to quote part of Animal House!). We were and remain intellectual. We argued in front of a federal mediator/ arbitrator about our seniority issues. The binding arbitration is the end result of the complete failure by at least one party to negotiate a combined list.

Now we are threatened with new union representation (but the binding decision remains). I will do everything in my power to get EVERY America West pilot to vote. On top of that I will do everything in my power to convince the AAA pilots that ALPA is the quickest means to a new contract and merger protection with another ALPA carrier.

I know each and every one of our pilots are emotionally charged by this decision. I simply ask that you do the following before you vote:
1. Read the ALPA Merger policy entirely.
2. Read the AWA/ AAA merger transcripts.
3. Read the Nicolau Award.
4. Review the track record of the USAPA counsel, and be sure that they can deliver everything that they promise.
5. Be sure USAPA can deliver EVERYTHING (not just say they can) that they promise.

If you have done all five tasks and find ALPA Merger policy has been followed, then your decision must be to keep ALPA on property. If you vote for USAPA, you will likely not see a new contract for YEARS and you will encounter litigation that will make the NW/Republic merger pale by comparison.

Good luck to us all.

Your altruism is touching. And ALPA does need someone to advocate the value of their merger protections.

At the moment, I think your efforts would best serve ALPA over at NWA and Delta right now. Its OK... go ahead... we'll wait to hear back from you before we do anything rash.
