I still can’t understand how the IAM can allow management to outsource the work/replace at stations with IAM lower pay outsource employees

Where have you been? People have been railing against this for ~3 years now...

BTW, ZW just lost a handful of these NW contracts to RHS (the new combined entity of XJ/OH/CP).

Just an aside, but ZW actually tops out higher than either US or NW. Takes forever to get there, but still...

I have been aware from the beginning just wondering what IAM leadership has to say about it. What is Air Wisconsin top out pay for passenger service agents? Is RHS (the new combined entity of XJ/OH/CP) unionize?

They haven't ever really said much; especially when compared to, say, WFS or ATS taking cities over. My guess-and it's only a guess- is that their rationale is that since ZW is in DL143, it's better than the work going to a 3rd party.

Apparently, I can't read...it's $14.58 at most cities ($15.19 at "high cost" cities)... I stand corrected, and apologize for the incorrect info earlier.

No. None of the three are currently unionized.

Just as an update, as noted in the UA thread, apparently all ~25 cities where ZW handles NWA flights will lose that work on June 1st, with RHS taking it all over...

Source? Hven't heard this anywhere else. My station is not handled by ZW but we are still in a holding pattern on an announcement.....

First from a General Chair, and then from ZW employees in my city... Not sure if it's 100% set in stone, but seems to be.

The wheels on the bus go 'round and 'round!

This reminds me of that Twilight Zone episode where that couple thought they would escape by a train and ended up back at the place they departed from.

Anyway, it will be interesting to see what happens when Delta takes over. I doubt it would keep unionized outsourced workers over their own, unless the union pays less! But never fear, Air Wisconsin services other airlines. Thing is that jobs will still be cut.

It's a pity that a union has found a way to legally cross a picket line and replace high paid union workers with lower paid union workers.

Since I don't know how much one airline's union is tied into another's, I would wonder if they have the same officers and if they took a pay cut. Is Air Wisconsin's IAM prez the same as NWA's IAM prez is what I am wondering, for example.

Both NW & ZW are in the same district (DL143), so they have the same president. The current one (Steve Gordon) was not in office when the outsourcing changeover was occurring...

Union whipsawing
http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/...64295-1,00.html

"The auto companies would be wise to maintain a united front that would sooner or later lead to industry-wide bargaining."
Some unions also favor industrywide bargaining on the principle that employers can then no longer play off one local against another. But many union leaders oppose it, recognizing that it minimizes labor's ability to play one employer against the other.
Whipsawing is when workers within a company compete with each other to perform work cheaper. It may involve successive surprise strikes by a union against one after another of the various employers in an industry or in an employer's association so that no employer knows which one will be "sawed off" next.

Northwest is a poor product. They need to look at field stations and review the needs of the city. If the city is small or medium why not use DGS. Pay peanuts get monkies!!!

Great idea. Not. You clearly have no clue.

Nice attempt at flame bait. I have to give you credit, though. You are efficient. It only took you 4 sentences to posit a theory, and then contradict it. Well done!

I have heard that DL is going to be getting DGS off the ramp in cities were mainline exists putting outsource employees, like the ones from DGS, in to a cleaner rolls. I would hate to loose good work like cleaning to a second rate outfit like DGS or RHS but here at NWA we still believe that the luggage should arrive with the passengers and if they(place your outsourcing company name here) can't do, we know that we can. This may have something to do with all the Northwest people running things now at DL The numbers don't lie.
