You and your bud Dell have both said that IS is a threat to us
Containing, defeating and eliminating IS is defending us, like going after AQ and its supporters, particularly the Taliban, was.
That is not the same thing in any way as invading Iraq to "sow the seeds of diplomacy".
I said eraly in that if we were going to try to bomb them into submission, it was going to take a lot more than what we were doing, and like any other war if we were going to engage then we should get serious about it.

Their bank accounts are being drained
We do defend them, probably always will, but they are having to do more themselves now
We are defending our interests, and not so broadly as to think we can export our way of life to a people who Despise both it and us by killing those people
We are even able to work with countries where our interests align while still standing up to them when they don't, a la China.
Over all, in a messy world, not doing too bad, and much better than the failures of the previous. Almost got their messes cleaned up even
