NW (BOS) Union Reps....Banned !

Not really. The "style" might differ, but the core story is the same.

Let's recap:

1. The OP has very close ties to BOS (you'll just have to trust me on this one).

2. Red Tail Bear, NWA BOS employee verified the account.

3. Another NWA employee (me) heard the same account from another source.

4. A 4th poster verifies-again- that the event did, in fact, occur.

5. Red Tail Bear verifies that the "new" poster(s) are in fact, from BOS and have first hand knowledge.

And yet each story differs from the previous. But its ok really...you all can carry on.

Let's recap:

2. Red Tail Bear, NWA BOS employee verified the account.

I may be mistaken, but I thought that Red Tail Bear (NHBB's son) was in frozen MSP, not Chowdertown. Or did he recently move?

ONCE AGAIN BOS RAMP GUYS NOT WELCOMED BY MANAGEMENT IN DL BREAKROOM

A second attempt was made today to speak with some of the DL ramp guys by two NW ramp guys one of them was there on the first attempt, the other a union rep/ramp guy. When they arrived they were welcomed by the DL ramp guys and conversed with them for about 15 minutes discusssing the recent NMB ruling and some pension issues when a DL ramp supervisor/manager appeared and told the NW guys that they needed to leave and that they weren't allowed to be passing out union material to DL employees. He then proceeded to collect this material from around the room. Even from out of the hands of some who were reading this material. At this point the NW union rep explained that what he was doing was violating the DL employees rights and removed the material (somewhat forcibly) from the DL managers hands, at which point he told the NW guys if they don't leave he would call the police to have them escorted from the building. The NW guys told the supervisor that they would discuss this incident with the Director of Operations who at an earlier town meeting with NW employees told them they were welcome to come over to DL and meet their future co-workers and talk with them. They then collected the material and left the building. The DL ramp guys were absolutely amazed that someone stood up to and spoke to this manager in that tone. Some actually got up and left the breakroom suddenly when this was happening.

I dont care for a union myself, but what the manager did was dead wrong. Everyone should get to make their own decision.

Aren't there well-established rules about where and when organizing may occur? You'd think that the IAM would be well-versed on these rules and if Delta's conduct violated these rules, they'd be screaming bloody murder by now . . .

Yes, there are, and the IAM is well versed in them.

DL's conduct (or rather select employees of DL), has violated these rules on multiple occasions...

Amen!

It's also my understanding that last week the NW guys were hand billing in the employee parking lot DL uses, and were kicked out.

AMFA hand billed tons of times at the TOC. They werent kicked out of there. I cant see why this would be different.

There will always be pros and cons related to this issue. But for me, the pros surely outweigh the cons. Could you tell me what it is about the union that makes you lean the other way?

I can't see why either, since I assume that the TOC is private property... All I know I know is that DL employees in BOS park at a private lot (or at least not owned/run by Massport), and were kicked out.

For me the cons outweigh the pros. One of my main problems is the political view of the unions and who they tend to support, among other things.

Delta Boston Break room Incident on January 9, 2009

On Friday January 9, 2009 at about 10AM, my coworker and I went over to visit our brothers at Delta, at their request because they asked us to keep them up to date on any information we had on the merger. We brought over various information. One was about the recent ruling by the National Mediation Board and another about the IAM pension plan. A secretary/manager came in and then left. I believe she went to get a supervisor. My coworker then left to get more information from his truck, IAM calendars, ect…While he was gone, a supervisor/performance lead came into the break room. He walked over to me and in an aggressive manner (he invaded my personal space and got into my face) and stuck his hand out and introduced himself to me. He told me I was going to have to leave and I asked him why. He stated, “I don’t like what you’re talking about and I don’t like what you’re doing.†I said, “Okay†and continued talking to the guys about the 113% funded IAM pension plan with no SS offset. You have to remember the Delta workers asked us to come over with any information pertaining to this merger and we will continue to do this despite what happened on this day.
The Delta supervisor went around and retrieved leaflets and pamphlets from the men even going so far as talking one out of someone’s hands while they were reading it. At this point my coworker came into the room with the additional information. One of the Delta employees went to the supervisor and asked him to give the pamphlet back so he could finish reading it. He was reluctant to do so I relieved the supervisor of the paperwork he was holding. At that point, the Delta supervisor said that if we didn’t leave he was going to call the State police. I told him to go ahead because beside the bullying and intimidation tactics what he had done was against the law and a violation of their rights. We stayed a little over 5 minutes for the police to come when it dawned on us that the Delta employees would most likely face disciplinary actions for having the audacity to challenge the supervisor for wanting to read the material, so we left.
The bottom line is the supervisor came over to throw us out and throw out the IAM pension information. He wasn’t successful with either, in fact he looked silly saying he was going to call the police and in retrospect he doesn’t have the authority to call the police without asking someone above him, you know, the whole robot thing. Whether he likes it or not it is the right of every person at Delta to be informed. And as everyone knows knowledge is power. Once again I want to state that the Delta employees want us to come to the break room. You have to remember folks, in less than 60 days;,we will be sharing this very break room with these men and women. It might not seem like much especially to us old NWA workers but these Delta guys showed a lot of guts by standing up to this supervisor by having the audacity of wanting something back that he took right from their hands. We didn’t use any names on this article because this is part of a complaint being sent to National Labor Relations Board. If anyone doubts any of this simply contact the Boston Delta break room and ask to speak with a ramp worker, not a supervisor or a performance lead, and I am sure they will back this up. In closing all one would ask is to inform yourself of our contract and all the benefits we won through the collecting bargaining process.
