So who does the most extremist liberal-left president choose for Supreme Court? The most extremist liberal left judicial activist who will indulge her left-wing policy preferences instead of neutrally applying the law.....Sonia Sotomayor.

But hey why be concerned, after all Court is Where Policy is Made

In a recent case, Ricci v. DeStefano, Sotomayor sided with a city that used racially discriminatory practices to deny promotions to firefighters. The per curiam opinion Sotomayor joined went so far out of its way to bury the firefighters’ important claims of unfair treatment that her colleague, Judge Jose Cabranes, a Clinton appointee, chastised her.

According to Judge Cabranes, Sotomayor’s opinion “contains no reference whatsoever to the constitutional claims at he core of this caseâ€￾ and its “perfunctory disposition rests uneasily with the weighty issues presented by this appeal.â€￾ Even the liberal Washington Post columnist Richard Cohen expressed disappointment with the case, stating, “Ricci is not just a legal case but a man who has been
deprived of the pursuit of happiness on account of race.â€￾

Sotomayor’s terrible decision in Ricci is under review by the Supreme Court and an opinion is expected by the end of June.

• Sotomayor readily admits that she applies her feelings and personal politics when deciding cases. In a 2002 speech at Berkeley, she stated that she believes it is appropriate for a judge to consider
their “experiences as women and people of color,â€￾ which she believes should “affect our decisions.â€￾ She went on to say in that same speech “I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her
experience would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.â€￾

This is déjà vu all over again. Just went through this same crap with Scalia and to a certain extent Roberts and Thomas. I wish someone would just appoint a centrist judge.

I'm very curious to see if the same republicans who were calling for up/down votes when Bush was pres will be willing to give Obama the up/down votes on his nominees. I doubt they will as it is politicians we are taking about. They just want 'fairness' when it is in their favor. Turn the tables and they revert to their old slimy tricks and lies.

It is odd that Obama has seemed to disregard/ignore the elephant in the room with this Soto buisness.

That would be the events over this memorial weekend. We had Iran make aggressive moves, /Israel going on record to say thru will respond to Iran with force, despite what Obama wants, and north Korea exploding a nuke and firing off a couple of missles.

Is it just me, or does this only reinforce his inexperience with foreign policy?

I don't worry to much about nominees to the Supreme Court and here is why.

The Senate Vetting process is very rigid!

The intellect is almost always there!

Precedent plays a huge part in their decision process.

Justices are appointed for life and often are quite unpredictable!

All of the above is critical and allowing the process to work is why after 230 plus years despite a great many well intentioned politicians we still live in a relatively free society.

Consider Justice Earl Warren, appointed by Eisenhower who no one would ever accuse of being liberal. Yet Chief Justice Warren led one of if not the most liberal Supreme Courts in our history.

There must me something very odd in the air in that building as staunch ideologues become totally independent in their thoughts and reasoning. No doubt infuriating their benefactors with decisions that follow the law if not strictly the USC.

I'd like to see some evidence regarding her decisions. She is unknown to me which isn't surprising.

She is one of only three federal appellate judges in America to issue a court opinion saying that the Second Amendment does not apply to states. The case was Maloney v. Cuomo, and it came down this past January.

Likely to develop more traction is criticism of Sotomayor’s actual approach toward affirmative action issues, starting with the now-famous line from her speech to a diversity conference in 2001

I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion [as a judge] than a white male who hasn’t lived that life.

And continuing through the pending New Haven case where some fellow judges thought she gave short shrift to firefighters’ complaints of reverse discrimination.

And one that is not surprising, is this Justice’s yearbook page from college:
