Obama says US should have paid maternity leave

WHY don't countries just as Good as the dear ol' USA (like NORWAY, Germany, Australia )(Just to name a few) have trouble .. "PAYING-for-it", as you point out ERIC ?
Let's see...

1) Most of those countries are taxing their citizens income at rates of 45% or higher?
2) they don't have problems with illegal aliens
3) they manage immigration so that only productive people get entry
4) they have low corporate tax rates, encouraging companies to invest in their people?

Only the UAE has a higher corporate tax rate (55%). The countries with corporate tax rates between 33% and 40% include places like Argentina, Venezuela, Pakistan, Sudan, and Angola. The only industrialized country that comes close to the US is Japan, with a 35% rate, and their rate has been dropping over the past decade...

If you want to encourage companies to invest in social welfare for their employees, lower the taxes.

Yeah everybody has a band aid but nobody has a solution. If an employer is forced to pay for this, you'll see many job cuts. And thinking that there won't be those who scam this benefit is an illusion on your part. What's missing from your All The Others chart is how much time off workers are given and see which workers have more time off. Although things may have changed in some places work weeks are six days.

Again instead of beating me and twisting my questions, give me answers because I am very skeptical that this won't cost me in the long run. Factor in that among paying maternity leave, the employer will more than likely have to pay overtime to cover the workload.

Sounds like promoting family values to me.
No it sounds like welfare in the workforce. If you want family values go talk to June Cleaver because society has moved on!

I have another question. In the countries that do pay maternal leave(especially those who pay for the man, too) is marriage a requirement? Can a single mom get paid maternal leave? To those who pay for both parents, are deadbeat dads given the benefit?

Paternity leave in the EU doesn't appear to be dependent on marriage, civil or otherwise. Just being named on the birth certificate is sufficient.

i have to question number 2... europe has a massive illegal alien problem... they do manage their immigration better...  in fact in germany you have to be fluent in german, go through an extensive 6 month course in German before you can get a permit to work...  even for the legal immigrants that come in.  but with the instability in northern africa and the genocide in sub Saharan Africa people are looking at any way to get out..
southern europe is hit hardest..  and no walls will be able to keep them out..

What about for adopted children? Bears could do an Angelina Jolie and stay out of his featherbedded gubmint job for decades...

Only if a man could get maternity leave....I demand equal protection.
so i guess if you get hit in the junk medical leave for that is unconstitutional because women do not have the required parts?

when you give birth you can get maternity leave... paid or not is dependent on negotiations between employer and employee there are already businesses that offer it

Stop fishing for red herring. That is why you have policymakers and a legal department. Company policies are developed all the time as you well know.

so because there are bureaucrats that make these polices us poor peons shouldn't ask questions?  you may trust the all powerful federal overlords and their minions doesn't mean the rest of us do

the question may to you seem a red herring, but answering in it in a concise and logical manner gets more done than telling someone not to ask it at all...

as you well know...
