Why Is Obama Changing the 9/11 Anniversary?

The Obama White House is behind a cynical, coldly calculated political effort to erase the meaning of the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks from the American psyche and convert Sept. 11 into a day of leftist celebration and statist idolatry.

This effort to reshape the American psyche has nothing to do with healing the nation and everything to do with easing the nation along in the ongoing radical transformation of America that President Obama promised during last year's election campaign.

The president signed into law a measure in April that designated Sept. 11 as a National Day of Service, but it's not likely many lawmakers thought this meant that day was going to be turned into a celebration of ethanol, carbon emission controls, and radical community organizing.

With the help of the Obama administration, the coalition is launching a public relations campaign under the radar of the mainstream media -- which remains almost uniformly terrified of criticizing the nation's first black president -- to try to change 9/11 from a day of reflection and remembrance to a day of activism, food banks, and community gardens.

"The organizing term is to 'go dark.' You don't tell the press, don't tell people you think will tell the press," said the source.

Of course, the annual commemoration of the 2001 terrorist attacks belongs to the entire nation, but President Obama and the activist left don't see it that way. They view the nationwide remembrance of the murder of 3,000 Americans by Islamic totalitarians as an obstacle to winning over the hearts and minds of the American people.

This is certainly his prerogative to blatantly pander to his base!

Conversely those of us who find these actions offensive can also organize and whip up a political frenzy honoring those who lost their lives due to the appeasers in the Clinton adminstration.
It doesnt surprise me at all anymore.

I'd be happy if people of all stripes would get off their high horse regarding the horrific events of September 11, 2001. It was a horrible day, to be sure, but commemorations, celebrations and observations on that day only serve to glorify the achievements of 19 pieces of garbage on that fateful day. We'd be much better served (IMO) if it were treated much like every other one of the 365 days of the year.

You just pluck any right wing nut job blog post and run with it don't you?

Flashback; way back to the year 2008, when this guy named George W. Bush was president.

President Bush Renews His Post-9/11 Call to Service; Honors the Compassion of America’s Volunteers

Bush challenges country to volunteer
by The Associated Press
Monday September 08, 2008, 4:30 PM

So Bush's support for a variety of volunteer efforts is a message the White House wants to get out -- particularly in the context of the Sept. 11 attacks. The president spent time Monday citing the benefits of program after program.

The President [George W. Bush] gave a broad and passionate speech on the power of volunteers to transform lives and tackle deep-rooted social problems. Recalling the heroism of the first responders and the outpouring of compassion Americans displayed after the terror attacks, the President urged American to rekindle that spirit of neighbor helping neighbor that was so strong after 9/11.

“Volunteerism is strong in the country. But the truth of the matter is, the farther we’ve gotten away from 9/11, that memory has begun to fade,†the President said. “And my call to people is, there’s always a need. You should be volunteering not because of 9/11, but you should be volunteering because our country needs you on a regular basis. And so today I call upon our fellow citizens to devote 4,000 hours over your lifetime in service to your country. You’ll become a better person for it, and our society will be more healthy as a result of it.â€

But wait, there is more. Victims' families have recommended making 9/11 a national day of service for years; as reported by Fox News:

WASHINGTON [2003]— Sept. 11 will forever be a day of grim memories, but a group of victims' relatives, nonprofit groups and marketing professionals hope to also turn it into an annual opportunity to boost volunteerism and charitable works.

One Day's Pay (search), a New York-based nonprofit, wants millions of Americans to honor those killed in the terrorist attacks by lending a helping hand to their communities each Sept. 11. The effort begins this year, and the group's goal is 30 million participants by 2010.

Jay S. Winuk, whose brother Glenn died at the World Trade Center (search), said the volunteerism drive "is perhaps the best thing to rise from the ashes of that terrible day. It is a simple, user-friendly action plan for helping others."

It continues here:

Organizations working with One Day's Pay include the Points of Light Foundation & Volunteer Center National Network (search), Youth Service America and Citizen Corps, an office within the Department of Homeland Security that coordinates preparedness activities in communities nationwide.

Check out the official Web site set up for the day:

"They're asking people to come up with their own events. So if you don't want to help out at anti-American places like food banks and community gardens, you can organize your own event."

Here is what was actually passed that day and supported by a bipartisan group:

President Barack Obama Signs Legislation to Establish Anniversary of 9/11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance

“Today President Barack Obama created a historic, enduring and compassionate legacy that truly honors the 9/11 victims and their families, first responders and rescue and recovery workers, the soldiers who have take up arms to defend our freedom and safety, and the many volunteers who spontaneously contributed their efforts in the immediate aftermath of 9/11,†said David Paine, founder and president of MyGoodDeed.org, the nonprofit group that led a seven-year campaign to formally establish 9/11 as an annually recognized day of service and remembrance. “There isn’t a better or more fitting way to remember 9/11 than for all of us as Americans to voluntarily set aside time on the anniversary of the September 11 attacks to help others in need.â€

More:

U.S. Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY) and U. S. Rep. Peter King (R-Long Island) both worked closely with the sponsors of the Serve America Act in the U.S. Senate and U.S. House of Representatives to draft and include language to establish 9/11 as a National Day of Service and Remembrance.

“I could not be more proud to work to pass this important provision,†said U.S. Senator Charles Schumer (D-NY), who joined with U.S. Representative Peter King (R-Long Island) in first proposing to Congress back in 2004 that 9/11 should be designated a national day of service. “September 11 should not only be a day for mourning – it should be a day to think about our neighbors, our community and our country. We can take a tragic day in our nation’s history and turn it into a force for good.â€

“I have been active in seeking a service day for years,†said Rep. King. “America came together in the aftermath of 9/11, reminding us what it truly means to be part of this great nation. By making 9/11 a national day of service, that same spirit of giving will continue in a day of remembrance, unity and selflessness.â€

“We greatly appreciate Senator Schumer’s, Congressman King’s and Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton’s tireless dedication to this cause, as well as the support we received from Senators Edward Kennedy (D-MA) and Orrin Hatch (R-Utah), and Representatives George Miller (D-Calif.), Carolyn McCarthy (D-Calif.) and Buck McKeon (R-Calif.), all of whom joined together to include the 9/11 Day of Service in this important national service legislation,†Winuk said.

What are you talking about. Nobody is writing new legislation. It was a bipartisan bill passed back in April. This is from the blog the OP linked to:

The president signed into law a measure in April that designated Sept. 11 as a National Day of Service, but it's not likely many lawmakers thought this meant that day was going to be turned into a celebration of ethanol, carbon emission controls, and radical community organizing.

Now some paranoid delusional blogger thinks something is up.

...and the OP decided to repeat it here.
