Where did I ever mention Ann Romney's statement?... Putting words in other people's mouths again?
My comment was directed at the insinuation that being in France vs. Africa was a choice Romney got to make for the comfort/risk factor. It's not anyone's choice where they serve.
They're certainly a rare find. But Powell isn't a Democrat. He still considers himself a Republican. And I doubt he'd have hesitated to send in air cover for Stevens.
A coward, eh? There was nothing going on that would have deterred me. We'd only pulled out of Vietnam a few years earlier, and the military had been subsequently decimated by Carter.
Working at a gas station or a busboy was seen as more honorable at the time than enlisting in the military. It had nothing to do with fear, though.
What's your excuse?
Where do you think this whole argument started? Start at 6:00

Who said anything about Africa. You think Mr Romneys donations to the church had nothing to do with his sons choice assignment for missionary work? OK. I bet GW's dad had nothing to do with GW serving in the NG protecting the continental US from invasion. That may be the case but I have my doubts.
Rare find? What are the exact numbers? What Mr. Powell may or may not have done is up for debate. I suspect you are probably correct in your assumption but that does not make it right. There may have been other factors to take into account. MacArthur wanted to use nukes in North Korea. Probably a good thing he was not in charge.
OH, so your decision to not enlist was our of vanity? How quaint. If you believe in the war put up or shut up. Don't make others do your biding.
I do not agree with the US application of the military. The last 'just' war was WWII. I am not going to fight as a proxy for the like of politicians or chicken hawks like your self and Romney who are to cowardly to fight the wars they support.
