The Christians may not have invented it but they sure as hell did support it and promote it. Manifest destiny. If that is not promotion of the idea I have no clue what is.
So, Hitler, Atilla the Hun, the Celts, Alexander the Great, the Roman Empire, the Mongols... they were all Christians, too?

Hitler was an atheist. I guess that means the atheists support manifest destiny as well? After all, he represents atheists, no?

Genocide knows no religion, but religion knows genocide.

What part of "Christians did not invent it" are you not clear on?

Hitler never spoke of manifest destiny. He was all about the 1000 yr Reich and world domination. Same end result different impetus.

For the record, to you and Quag, I totally agree with the RELIGION aspect. That is what contributes divisions among themselves.

Perhaps you've been conditioned to see religion as a negative?...

Looking at the wars of aggression taken on by the Romans, Mongols, Huns, Celts and Gauls, those were all about extending territory and power (i.e. greed and ego).

While there were certainly religious motivations in some wars over time, it really wasn't until the Crusades that religion came to the forefront of a reason to go to war and conquer a rival.

Well, that's what you think.
As an addition to E's post, think about the genocide of people regardless of religion.
Russia, China, Burma, Cambodia, and numerous African nations murdered people just because...
2,000,000+ people were murdered by Pol Pot, some for just wearing glasses.
So when you pick up your 'broad brush' you might want to think about it.

Not at all.

I made that statement without doing any statistical analysis.

You have inferred your own bias into my post.

There was no bias in your "more wars have been fought over religious beliefs than land disputes" comment?

Odd, considering it's been a meme for atheists to rally behind since at least 9/11.

If you made it without bias, my apologies. Having heard it so often in the past 14 years, it's hard not to make the assumption that you'd also heard it repeatedly enough to assume it's a fact.

Researchers have actually shown that fewer than 10% of all wars were truly religious i.e. "we're on a mission from God" or like what we're seeing from ISIS.
