And lets jest remember one thing.
 

 
I had thought better and delted my post.  The bodies of the victims are barely cold.  Can we at least wait until after their funerals to defend or blame guns.  
 
But in less than 4 pages - Chris Harper is being talked about.  Just like he wanted.  Whether he was black or white or both or conservative or liberal or christian or muslim....he's getting talked about.   And he'll be talked about on the mainstream media, in the conservative media, on pro gun site, on anti gun site, on you tube.  He'll be talked about for a couple of weeks - then forgotten.   But in those couple of weeks, some other crazed loner will see that he too can get the attention he could never get in life by just shooting up a school.   And from what he's learned, he might be able to boost his "fame" by shooting up a kindergarten at a Christian school.    Chris Harper got exactly what he wanted.  And he thanks you.

Facts as they stand:
1. The shooter is a young man named Chris Mercer.
2. He’s not a white guy and he’s not an NRA member.
3. He self identifies as “mixed race” and his myspace page seems to link him directly to Islamic terrorists.
4. The bottom line right now, it appears a young, possibly Muslim, almost certainly a Muslim sympathizer.
5. He appears to have ties to radical Muslims.

Just heard the shooting took place in a "GUN FREE ZONE" and the lone security guard was armed with a can of mace. Some people call this scenario, open season.

So to all you anti- GUN freaks out there, just how do you keep guns out of the hands of people who shouldn't have access to them and let the American citizen retain their right to own a gun without trampling those rights?

Again "GUN FREE ZONES" don't seem to be working and I would start there!

Umpqua Community College is a posted Gun Free Zone but allows concealed carry under Oregon law. The college security page states the following:

 
 
“Possession, use, or threatened use of firearms (including but not limited to BB guns, air guns, water pistols, and paint guns) ammunition, explosives, dangerous chemicals, or any other objects as weapons on college property, except as expressly authorized by law or college regulations, is prohibited.
 
Possession of knives with a blade longer than 4” is prohibited.
 
Brandishing weapons is prohibited.
 
Misuse of personal defensive weapons – e.g., pepper spray, etc. is prohibited. The owner is responsible and accountable for any misuse of these devices.”

About 34% of those are homicide.
More than half of homicides are gang/drug related.
Mass shootings are a rarity in those stat's.

Sure he is a hero but that part is obvious.

The harder part - and why it is being discussed is why this happened, why the shooter was motivated to do what he did, and why the checks and balances that were supposed to stop it (such as that it was supposedly a gun free zone) didn't work.

THAT is why the shooter is getting the media attention and will until we figure out how to stop this kind of stuff.

and those who argue for gun control in the US at this point fail to admit that doing that would only allow criminals and the police to have guns and not common citizens. that is why gun control won't go anywhere in the US at this point.

You expect someone with little or no training in the use of gun, much less any practical use, to be able to pick out a suspect in a mass of panicking people and shoot that individual without any collateral damage?   
 
We already have an example of where that did not work out to well.
