Delta recently started a promotion saying that if you fly on a just one Delta flight out of 14 "select" cities (Charlotte, Erie, etc.), you will automatically receive Silver Medallion status within their FFP. The cities include; Binghamton, Burlington, Buffalo, Charlotte, Erie, Wilmington, Harrisburg, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Providence, Richmond, Rochester, State College, and Syracuse.

ALL US AIRWAYS CITIES.

Yeah they are really hurting.

Let's see, one 767 flight this week, no empty seats. One 757 flight, no empty seats. One 737 flight no empty seats. Five MD-80 flights this week, and a total of eight empty seats between all five flights.

Yep, they must be really hurting.

No, Duke, that spells that they smell blood, and are out to steal US' frequent flyers. It's actually a brilliant marketing move, and one which may work.....

I have not been on a DL or affiliated flight in 4 years and 3 months, but this offer has my attention y'all......

I just wonder if anyone at CCY noticed.......

Great count on the numbers of passengers....now do you have any numbers on the yield for those flights? Delta lost a boatload of money last year - Heck...every airline seems to be experiencing record load factors except one....and that one is the only one showing a profit.

But I have to smile at this...My last Delta flight, when they announced that first class and medallion passengers could board at any time, almost everyone in the gate area headed for the jetway. They had to remind people that this was for medallion passengers only. But with this program, I guess everybody is welcomed to board at once, since for a year anyways everbody will be a medallion passenger. Moo.

Now if CCY would just fire back with a similar program and we could have tit for tat.

I think part of this response is also to Airtran. At least here is Richmond Airtran is all over the newspapers and TV with ads about service to ATL and PHL staring June 23. Delta is responding to both US and Airtran. And if I were a SP with DL I would be very upset that they would give this away for only one flight.

As a side note I don't care how full the planes are for US or DL they are both losing lots of money (it is about yield not loads.) I am willing to bet DL will go through a BK at end of this year or beginning of next year, even if US is gone. (I think US will be around a long time!!!)

Actually, there's a targeted version of this promo which offers Gold Medallion status as well. But you actually have to receive the mailing to be eligible since the system actually checks to see if your SkyMiles number is valid for the offer. My guess is that perhaps SM's in those cities (or people who had bought one or more high-value tickets) received the targeted mailing.

The list of cities includes PIT, PHL, and CLT -- so this is pretty obviously aimed at taking business passengers away from US. Nailing the coffin lid shut one nail at a time.

KC. A lot has changed in 15 years. Try flying a flight and come back let us know how it was.

And besides it is not moo. On US it is suey, suey, suey.

I can't tell you the yeild of course, but they did ok on me. Fare was $1810.50. I even tried booking on the tidy bowl express, since they serve 3 of the five cities I was in this week. But then they didn't fly from any of the cities to the other cities or at least their web site wouldn't let me book it

My guess they did ok over all too. They are not giving the seats away with the simplifares (at least in the south east markets.)

Try flying through Atlanta on a weekly basis. Flying through Philadelphia is an upgrade, whether or not you sit in first class

Agreed. I am in PHL and that is the only reason I won't do the promotion. I can't stand the thought of having to go through ATL.

Suey, suey suey. {Enjoy the pig while she lasts}

I was on DL this week and out of ten segments, 9 were early into the gate. Five of them were connects through ATL. Of course the weather was fine too.

Delta has started what they call "thinning" in ATL. Between this and the rolling hub, DL seems to be getting their hands around this issue. I had much rather spend time due to irregular ops in an airport that is clean rather than the fllth of PHL. But to each his own

I've had the same experience on US in PHL, the only difference is we waited for the jetway and we got off the plane 20 minutes late.
