American Airlines continues to make its commitment to busting organized labor on its property crystal clear. Yesterday, the airline's parent company revealed in its Statement of Financial Affairs an expenditure of nearly $400,000 to a firm that specializes in union busting.

American Labor Relations Services, which according to its website sells "union-free solutions" to employers, was paid $392,000 in the 90 days leading up to AMR's bankruptcy filing in November.

"I'm disgusted, but I can't say I'm surprised. This is just the most recent in a long line of questionable expenditures made by management," said Laura Glading, President of the Association of Professional Flight Attendants. "Our team is going to press Horton and the rest of [AMR] management on this issue. We'd like to know exactly what the assignment was, the project's duration, and why this management team thought it was essential. As creditors, we have the right to know exactly what this company was doing and may still be doing to break the collective bargaining units at American."

From my research, American Labor Relations Services, Inc is a one-man operation based in Costa Mesa, CA. The guy does in fact consult with companies in strategies to maintain a "union-free" workplace. I smell money paid to the son-in-law of someone at Centreport. A statement sent out to management types...

"American Airlines engaged American Labor Relations Services, a labor relations

consulting firm, in 2011 for the purpose of educating and training frontline managers on

federal labor law and employee rights under the Railway Labor Act.

The firm works with managers to ensure their full legal compliance with the law in

relation to the Communication Workers of America (CWA) campaign to unionize

American’s Agent, Representative and Planner employees. It has no role or

involvement with any other employee group.

• As part of this effort, the company conducted numerous training sessions for ARP

Managers across the system last year and continue to regularly work with managers to

promote positive employee relations and provide guidance on issues related to the union

campaign.

• It is common for companies to seek assistance from employee relations specialists in

conjunction with unionization campaigns because of the complexities of the Railway

Labor Act and the rules governing union elections in the airline and railroad

industry. There have been significant changes in union election rules in recent years

and since the last unionization campaign at American, which was in 1998."

Considering the size of American Airlines and the number of locations, does it make sense to you to hire a one-man show to do all that training?

AMR management is heading down a path of non-existence!

Cunsulting Firms and paid outside Advisors will never replace good old fashion business sense!

AMR has none of that. so the hired firms will destroy American Airlines.

Good working with you all.

Those that run this airline are so far out of touch with the daily operation. I realize that the airline hires consultants and analysts but maybe the CEO needs to get out more often, especially maintenance.

The management and support staff includes many white-collar workers who didn't get bonuses and don't get the protections hammered out by American's union workers, either. Many have the flexibility to switch companies, even industries, as long as the economy is growing. Most pilots and flight attendants don't have that option, because they couldn't rack up enough seniority to make up the lost ground.

Like in the pass I’m sure US will get some of AA managements rejects. US feels AA management love every day

Used to be headquaters purpose was to support the field. It seems that now headquaters has the idea that the field is there to support their ivory tower. What a shame wish we had someone to run the airline with a single productive idea on how to get out if the mess THEY PUT US IN!

They have a plan. They are going to hire massive amounts of consulting firms, while keeping on the payroll those who are suppose to do those jobs.
Then when they are done, they will pat each other on the back about how much money they made doing this while shafting the low life grunts that produce in exchange for their compensation.

Should work out real nice for some.
