Painting of AC

The dark blue will fade and look horrible within a year. It's a good design, maybe replace that dark blue with the gray/mica.

They wont paint the MD-80s, that fleet is slated to be retired.

Doug is a penny pincher, he wont throw away money since the merger is expected to cost $1.2 Billion over the next three years.

INCORRECT: US Airways (aka America West) painted many AWA aircraft just so that they could retire them in about a year after that.

N914AW and N913AW are some examples:

Arriving on Runway 21 as flt#USA9254 MCN-GYR / December 2008

The above aircraft was painted in US colors in mid 2007 just so that it could be placed in the desert for display after the summer of 2008 with a spanking new and shiny livery.

While they started laying off people in 2007/08 in PHX they were painting planes just for fun.

Why would US return its planes to someone who doesnt own them?

LH doesnt own any US planes.

US painted its own planes in the Star livery.

That's correct, Star has nothing to do with the ownership of the A/C. On another note, I have always wondered why the 319's are the only type to carry any of the special liverys. Both of the SA, along with all of the retro A/C, and the sports teams too.

There was some 757s painted in the SA Livery.

So they'll repaint them?

I figured that since LH was part of the investigation in the SA accident a couple of years ago(want to say Spain?), they have some stake in the ac, even if for a franchise(or whatever it is) interest.

What are you talking about?

If US leaves Star, those planes will be repainted, each alliance has a special livery and has a certain number of planes that must be painted in the livery.

LH doesnt own any planes that US flies.

I recall Parker saying that it was because that aircraft type would rotate through the largest number of stations, or something similar to that.

Where I'm coming from....the Spanair crash. I read that LH investigated, but that had something to do with codeshare and 7 LH pax that were onboard.

I also assume LH is the leading force behind the SA much like AF leads the sky team.

So I went a bit off topic. That never happens here 🙄

It may be in the paint shop, but there's no way it will come out of this cycle with any American Airlines or One World livery.
I agree. Much too early for that. Will be interesting to see if it has Star Alliance on it though.
