Until US Airways revises it's policy against the OBESE flight attendants that extend WELL over the jumpseat, you can forget enforcing this policy. Can you imagine F/A Two Ton Betty telling a passenger their too fat for their seat? Would I love to be a fly on THAT overhead.

I would "love" for said fat passenger to lead an evauaction of a loaded transport aircraft. I don't seem to remember, in my over 32 years of aviation, seeing a crewmember cheating a passenger out of "space" on a flight. If you are "fat," and I will not mince words, you will not be allowed to take up space already paid for by a "less fat" individual. Bravo US Airways, BRAVO. This is not about those with a medical problem...this is about those that have paid for a certain "space." Obese..Fat...I actually don't see either being more offensive. I just think you get what you pay for. Next thing you know, they are going to ban smoking on aircraft...what will they think of next????!!! Not trying to be mean, really, Greeter.

You know those carry-on sizing cages that are around airports?

They need ass cages that slide up and down the wall to match your height. Everyone has to back up into the cage with their ass sticking out to see if it fits. GA rotate ass monitoring duties.

I used to have a cartoon in my office, wish I still had it to post here. It was a luggage sizer and right next to it was a butt sizer.

USAirways always knows who to come to when it is to get the job done. Flight Attendants already are the watch dogs for catering, passenger boarding , credit card vendors ,ice cream promotions,sky mall. This is totally out of line a flight attendant should not have to face these issues on board the aircraft. The company really counts on the flight attendants to keep the airline running I find it very offensive and disrespectful to pass this job onto an already overworked and underappreciated and underpaid group of great employees...............

Why not make this a part of the PILOT's duties?
WEIGHT and BALANCE?!?!?!?!?! It could be a part of the pre-flight check...they could be armed with a flashlight AND a ruler.

If a passenger makes it past the agent and down the jetway then an oversized issue is to become the flight attendants problem. WRONGOOOOOO! ! ! ! I don't care WHAT kind of policy they make up. It WILL NOT be adhered to trust us. It is NOT a flight attendants duty to tell someone in a sugar coated way that they are to fat for their seat. Did the people that thought this up THINK that we will do it? Anything else we should start doing? 🙄

I don't think Tempe realizes yet that the "East" F/A's are not as "Sheepish" as our brothers and sisters out "West"...WE WILL NOT DO IT JUST BECAUSE THEY TELL US TO!

I also love how Tempe just sends us vague, off-handed memos, and expects us to take them seriously. Are these people professionals or what? If they want us to enforce new rules or change inflight duties, they need to notify AFA, and send us revisions for the P&P if collectively agreed upon. Again...WHO is coming up with these ideas? And do they realize that they no longer work for a regional?

Yes the policy is ludicrous and as an "east gate agent" if its getting a flight out on time or checking the girth of the pax I know which I'll choose, but these guys out here are NOT hillbillies. After getting to know alot of them they're pretty smart. It's just some idiot (or idiots) were on a flight with an overweight person (probabley non-reving) and said to themselves "Ok thats it! When I get back to Tempe I'm implementing this new rule!) Also, I ride the employee bus with some of the west F/A S. They may not be as tough as you "old Broads" on the East side but they're not as "sheepish" as you might think

"Sheepish" is what a "West" FA called her workgroup out West...when I was on a West operated flight. She was glad we had some "Tough Old Broads" out East!

Though many should understand the importance of on time performance, letting a passenger down the jetway that may even remotely be in question is passing the buck and leaving it to a f/a to handle onboard. This is done with dupe seats all the time. It's a stupid rule that will NEVER be followed so who cares anyway.... As for the folks working in Tempe, there is some really young blood out there and must say it's nice to see some more energized people. As for what they have upstairs as far as common sense is another story. The smartest people can turn out to be the stupidest people. We could all agree here that the group running the show now has done some really idiotic things that could have been avoided. This is OBVIOUSLY one of them. 🙄

I don't like situations where front liners are forced to do the company dirtywork. Especially when it comes to such a sensitive issue as the one discussed here. Additionally the plan is at best ill advised and ill concieved.

As for the side issue of "Sheepish" West F/A's. in my limited observation they seem more fearful than sheepish. I can't imagine coming to work day after day being afraid of being written up. Plus it's a very poor way to manage people in general

It's funny...the difference. When East crews read-over this memo, IF they read their mail...they'll just chuckle and say "Yeah, right...uh huh" DELETE...next memo...

Have to agree with you. Good thing they didn't send out this memo last month when they wanted us to pass out the stupid "Cold Stone Creamery" gift cards.
I can see it now....
"Here's your ice cream gift card sir, now I have to tell you that you are too fat to occupy one seat and need to buy two."
In addition, the company never addressed the fact that they put obese people in the exit rows that then ask for seat belt extensions. I have e-mailed inflight about this many times as we've had people assigned the exit row who would be a cork in that window if they needed to evacuate. They won't make a firm stand and address this issue in a memo on how it should be handled. I think as obesity increases, it should be an FAR that you can't use an extension in a window exit......they want us to be the new "inch police"??? They need to back us up---which they won't do.
So now my rant is over ! 🙄
