Busted for stealing from duty free on plane.US EAST corp. sec. is a joke. 😛h34r:

What's your point? Obviously he was caught. And this is not an issue that is just confined to contract employees.

i guess then no one west of ol' mississippi steals then?

this person seems somewhat predjudiced towards easties 😱

Hmmm....let's see, did the ankle bracelets and gang memorabilia give anybody a clue to how dedicated these employees would be? Unfortunately, that's as good as it gets in Philly!

Presumably it was the duty-free stock on a plane, just going by the OP.

I can assure you this happens at any major station that has a lot of that stuff loading/offloading. There was a huge sting operation a year or two back at EWR with CO employees stealing caseloads of the little 1 oz' liquor bottles. Stop singling out PHL. Just get rid of the bad apples. You'll attract the same "type" that you're sterotyping ANYWHERE that you offer crap wages that nobody else will work. JFK, DTW, ORD, MIA, MSY, IAH, etc.

Every barrel has a few rotten apples

That is one of the most moronic (right up there with pResident quotes) saying I have heard. It simultaneously excuses just plain bad management as well as allowing others to demonize a group of people.

No one said anything when Wolf and his Board burned two billion in cash in their obviously futile attempt to prop up a failed "merger". Or when Siegel "negotiated" the "fee for departure" bane on the airline industry. Just a few bad apples?

and besides, maybe you are not paying the right price for the apples. When you don't value the merchandise, you tend to accept bad apples, either through inattention or you just don't care to ensure the very best.

My statement has to do with the fact there are bad people on both east and west, IAM and Teamsters. No organization is without them, it is a constant job weeding them out.

I agree with your point that theft is a universal human trait that can be found anywhere.

But as someone who lives in the PHL metro area, I have to admit that there is a certain negative attitude and ugly demeanor in Philly which is unique to say the least.

Sometimes it's humorous or even endearing as with the infamous Joey Coyle who finds sacks of money that fall out of the back of an armoured car. He picks them up and gets away free and clean until he starts partying and running his big mouth off. We all felt sorry for him.

But PHL is a hard-edged city with lots of not-so-very-nice people who are out to mess up your day with their negative attitude. That's not to say that there aren't good people here either, but in PHL, it's the negatives who rule the roost -- Philly sports fans being the best example ( and sadly, those few recalcitrant PHL baggage handlers ).

I've even witnessed classic Philly negativity in the PHL Envoy lounge with a couple of employees who behave bruskly, making commoents that they can't wait for the pax to leave the lounge and board their TA flights. This is the thing that folks remember about PHL and I guess that's why PHL is the brunt of so many jokes or comments. But it is earned and deserved.
