PHL expansion approved

13 years to complete? That's way too long! Will US Airways still be the major player there in 2025?

2025? Won't they need loading docks for the USS Enterprise? Talk about a snails pace? Well, it IS Pennsylvania after all. 🙄

Since there is currently no detailed Plan in place it'll be interesting to see how the different phases are schedulled. IMO, the People Mover from "F" to "A" and to the Center City Train would likely benefit passengers the most and should be scheduled early. One has to poder the question, if it takes 13 years to complete, what will aircraft (and long haul route) requirements be at that time. Unless they plan well for easy expansion, the re-constructed and new terminals (all except "A" are in the approved Plan), could be obsolete.

How about building a big X terminal in the middle with runways on both sides? It's a world winning design. 😉

Let's just hope there is something to replace the Dash 8s by the time the new express terminal is opened.

If they can get the financing, there's no reason why they can't build the new Express terminal and prepare a new facility for UPS at the same time.

which is another issue anyway - US and WN have already expressed concern over what will happen to their lease payments at PHL.

13 years to complete? Wow. It would be much better to have a midfield X shaped design, much better for connections than the outmoded current one. On the rail connection between terminals, it looks like it will be landside, not airside. Not the best for connecting passengers. About the best thing is the UPS relocation and the new runway.

13 years seems like a long time, but consider that 13 years ago:
1.) Construction on A-West was still a year or two from beginning
2.) The US Airways B-C check-in/departure hall was complete, with the B-C Marketplace shops about to open
3.) The "F" concourse construction hadn't yet begun

13 years has passed rather quickly, to me. THe PHL expansion will happen in phases, where we will see gradual changes. It's not like we have to wait 13 years for a final unveiling.

Exactly. The first phases will seem slow. The property in Essington will have to be purchased before the new UPS facility can be built. The UPS facility must be completed and operating before the current UPS buildings can be razed. Then the new runway can be started. It could be a few years just for that.
