PHL expansion plans in the works

Please go with the midefield terminal concept. just think of it:
1. Brand new terminals
2. More runways that can take more capacity
3. For the PHL cronies, more money to give contractor friends

Everybody wins. Just extending and adding a runway is a cheap makeover. If PHL is not changed soon than it becomes limited for expansion. Plus if any other legacy bites the dust than US could shift its resources to taking over one of their hubs rather than deal with PHL.

The city should have bought the old westinghouse factory and knocked it down and expanded the airport when they had the chance.

Too late now.

Yeah, and more opportunities for you-know-which airline to get the additional gates it so desperately wants! Let's not make it so easy on them.

Well I've always hoped that US would have a terminal like NW has in DTW.

I like the centerfield proposal, but I just can't imagine it ever happening. But something does need to be done soon. However, there seems to be some releif because both NW and DAL have cut back on flights.

SW can get their additional gates. That doesn't mean US can't increase operations both internationally and domestically as well.

The pricier the project the more the landing fees will go up. If anything it may deter WN from expanding in PHL.

That's why you won't see anything but runways unless US picks up the tab. I'm sure that none of the other airlines have any desire to pay for anything at PHL save runway reconfiguration.

WN has basically driven down oversized expansion projects at SJC and SEA in the past few years, and expect that same push at PHL if the airport tries to go nuts.

What's funny is that nothing PHL does will matter. The airspace is shared with DC airports and the NY area airports. PHL is and always will be the little step child. They can build all the runways and new midfield terminals they want. How will that change the fact that sometimes ya can't get in and ya can't get out. It's not always because of traffic jams on the ground at the airport but in the air. The PHL airport is in what probably could be considered the worst areas for an airport of its capacity. A definate armpit of an area. Move it to the country and send a train there. LOL

Not DC. You act as if there is no hope. Come on now, read this:

I do agree that if PHL is to grow substantially, move it to Southern NJ and build EWR II. Philadelphia PA metro has no room for a new huge airport.

NW has only had 3 gates for many years, and probably cannot work from 2.

DL used to have all of the odd gates in E (1,3,7,9,11) but due to cutbacks throughout the years can probably work with 3 excluding RON's, AF and YX handling.

To my knowledge, both NW and DL have cut flights. Now I could be wrong, but last time I checked, that was the case. Plus the areas that NW and DL cover, US already has a strong hold in as well. If they wanted too, US could probaly overtake DL and NW on their routes. Many people will use NW to DTW and MSP because of the mainline aircraft issue. Same with DL in ATL. If US used Mainline AC for those routes, I think they could easily overtake those routes. But would they want to do that? As a Philadelphia business traveler, I would love to see that.

Why can't the city annex Camden. I am sure NJ would let them take it off their hands. Condem the entire city as a blighted area (duh), buldoze it and build a state of the art airport in downtown (East) Philly?
