What's new

PHX Fog Saturday?

Doncha just love how the RLA was written many decades ago when people travelled by rail and the unions have kept this ancient ruling alive and ignored progress?

Yeah, unions are all about protecting their higher ups and making sure the money flows upstream.
Don't let your ignorance about the RLA keep you from posting.

The RLA was set up to protect interstate commerce, it has minimal protections for workers to set up unions, process of negotiations and how to handle disputes.

The transportation workers for years have been trying to get in changed and the playing field leveled, it favors the employer and was set up to ensure the continue flow of goods and services. Airline workers do not want to be under it as they were forced.

Only airline and railroad are not free to strike as the RLA prohibts contracts that expire, they become amendable and negotiations can take years while the employer profits and the employees do not.

Go educate yourself so you dont make yourself look so foolish when you post on something you have no idea about.

Merry Christmas public: HP scheduling has decided to send timing out crews home instead of asking them to fly their legal and negotiated lines. They shouldn't have to work, it is Christmas after all...

OK, I am going to ask you for some form of justification for that statement. If the crews were timing out because they could not fly their legs within the contracted and/or FAA maximum duty hours how do you make the assertion that "HP scheduling has decided to send timing out crews home instead of asking them to fly their legal and negotiated lines."

It was a mess in PHX on Sat. morning....we we're working a SAT-PHX departing at 0600...about an hour into flt. Captain calls and says PHX is at zero visibility and diverting to TUS...about 15min later he calls and says there is an opening in PHX and we're going for it, and we did land at 0730...after getting to the gate, I was finished and went to catch my commuting flt. home to JFK...flt leaves at 1003...at 0800 the fog rolled in again and you couldn't even see the runway from the terminal and all flts inbound were diverted to LAS, ABQ, TUS and other cities flts held....FLT CREWS were everywhere with no planes at gates...Crews also were "timing out" so it was a mess....planes that were diverted started to arrive around 1300 and after....my JFK flt finally left at 1430....really felt bad for those poor gate agents and Pax Service agents....

That's just downright awful! They should have sent everyone home with full pay. 🙄

Are you working Christmas, or Christmas Eve, or the Saturday before Christmas, or any day the rest of the year?

Well it was a mess and made for an extremly long day.

Day started at 530am in IAD, (330am PHX), we have a 6am van..we board the plane after it comes in late from LAS. We fly a scheduled 4:39hr flight...about a half hour out of PHX, (10am PHX)and circle for another 35mins..then are told we are diverting to LAS due to ground hold in PHX. We land in LAS at 1107 (PHX)time...and sit for 3hrs...we are allowed to let the passengers deplane and get food etc at the airport.

We then reboard, many passengers already misconnecting to their holiday travel plans...and take off at 245pm (PHX). We fly to PHX about a 50 min flight...to land and have to sit in what we call the "holding pen" because there are no gates for us to get to...sit for another 45mins...to finally arrive to our gate 6hrs later!!! I didn't walk into my house til 5pm PHX!

Have to say, the passengers were very appreciative due to the circumstances...guess Mother Nature sure put a wrench in their travel plans, but when we apologized for our late arrival...and stated that it was an adventure and that most importantly we got from point A to point B safely, they were very thankful.

It was a tiring day...and then when I pull up my payroll report..its nice to see that they have me blocked in and landing in PHX at 1107am! So now we have to contact payroll, (who is sitting at home enjoying their holiday)on Tuesday to make sure we get paid properly.

BTW, No extra pay for us to work on the holiday...just straight time.

Merry Christmas!

It's not LEGAL  when you are projected to go over 14.5 hours duty contractually and you refuse to go over. It is NEGOTIATED that we are to be released if we decline to go over 14.5 hr duty day. It is unacceptable after flying around all morning and you exercise your right to go home because you are so exhausted and if you do volunteer will probably go into 17hrs for schedulers to HANG UP, YELL, TELL US THAT WE MUST CONTINUE TO WAIT and that they will get back to us. They agreed to our contract they should be respectful and follow it... not treat us like children. We deserve to go home... after all it just happens to be christmas and most of us haven't had a day off around the holidays in YEARS! 😛

700, its good to see that you are still part of the union cult. You crack me up like a bad TV show from the 70's.

Have a great Christmas, hope that Santa hits your house before he violates his work rules.

Glad to see you still cant accept the facts about the RLA and educate yourself.

NO cult member here, just an educated union member, unlike yourself who is a union hater.

SETTLEMENT AGREEMENT

1. The Company will cease and desist from using crews and/or equipment from the US Airways side of the operation (the East side), to cover scheduled operations on the America West side of the operation (the West side), or to substitute for flight cancellations on the West side.

So if we cancel flights and can't protect passengers on our own flights, the unions would rather see us protect them on other airlines???

Did you ever thank that maybe the schedulers, many of whom alo haven't had days off around the holidays, had to work an extremely long day as well? Some were called in on their days off, or from vacation, to help out.

The company has agreed to the CBA as well as the union, if they dont have a problem with it why do you?

Bottom line is the CBA is in place to protect the workers and not let the company do whatever they want.

And it is not your own flights yet, still two seperate operating certificates per the FAA.

Go ask Doug why the CBAs have not been merged yet?

If they are out of time (FAA or contract), I'd love to know why you think they should or would dcontinue to work?

My contract got tossed away after I left the airline, but there are a few things that the company can do during irregular operations, and what happened in PHX would have fallen under those provisions.

The company can reroute West FA's on trips. West FA's that are about to time out from a doing a long leg can be assigned to shorter flights as long as they: 1) Fall within the allowable duty day requirements for the trip from the time they did check in on that day; and, 2) Will be released from duty on the trip within four hours of whenever the trip was to be completed. There are many other rules that apply, but those are the two biggies. Rerouted lineholders will get paid the greater of the either the scheduled trip or the rerouted trip. Reserves only get paid for what they actually fly, unless they were flying trips outside their reserve obligations.

In a scenario such as this the company is trying to use reserves to cover the long leg trips, is calling folks at home to assign them to involuntarilly come to work (but FA's are smart enough to not answer the phone after having been abused many times in the past (and personal contact must be made...no messages suffice.)) and tagging other reserves as they call in to be released from trips that they (thought) had completed. The problem here is that it takes a lot of schedulers to run the operation in that emergency mode and the company has cut back on having them on the payroll.

Anyway, there is a little insight on how or what happens with FA's and schedulers during irregular ops.

Gosh,

This sounds like any inclement weather day in Philly.
Welcome to our world.

Oops I forgot, their doesn't even have to be any weather in Philly for things to go Tango Uniform!

If its TWO different operating certificates, Why does your planes have US Airways PAINTED on the side?

I am a passenger and I could give a rats tail about your union on who is allowed to take me. If I am in PHX and I am supposed to fly to SJC, for example, the original plane is out of service and there is an EAST metal available, Your telling me SCREW the Passenger for your UNION! Piss off customers, and when you are out of a job in a year or two, please do not file for unemployment, save me my tax dollars.
