Item 1. After a year and a half of negotiations, management is finally
drafting their first complete economic proposal and will present it to the
JNC on May 8th and 9th. Your MEC and your JNC needs your help so that we
can tell management, loud and clear, what we expect from this proposal. To
that end, your Strike Prep Committee is announcing a picketing event in
Philadelphia on Friday, April 27th.
We need to remind management exactly what needs to be addressed in any of
their proposals in order to get a ratifiable agreement these are: pay and
benefit levels that are commensurate with US Airways' position in the
marketplace, a scheduling system that doesn't treat us like indentured
servants, and industry-leading scope. These will be the cornerstones of a
fair agreement.
This next picketing event gives you an excellent opportunity to get this
message across before management passes their next proposal. You should
know that during a brown bag luncheon this week in PHX, Doug Parker stated
that management and the pilots are far apart on their positions in contract
negotiations and that both sides appear to be digging in their heels. He
also stated that management's number one priority right now is to put the
operation back on track and that pilot contract negotiations may take a lot
