Privacy concerns

This afternoon, while trying to heat up after being out in the snow, I got a call from a little birdie. Supposedly some in CLT management sent out an email over the netbrain (US local intranet) that included some CLT personnel's names AND social security numbers. Once they found out this had occurred, someone then went through and deleted the email from inboxes where it wasn't yet read. For those who had read it (one can only assume they went into the mail logs and found out who read it... kudos for the initiative), the readers were sent another email asking if they had deleted it and/or if they had written or saved any information from it. The tone of the followup to those who read it was very "Big Brother" in nature.

Does anyone know anything more about this?

From an IT point of view, this is very sloppy and potentially damaging for the people in that email. I hope it was contained to the local net and didn't get released to the internet.

The laws governing data security breaches, such as this purported breach, are very strict and oftentimes require notices be sent out. The persons affected may be entitled to credit monitoring and/or the credit reporting agencies should be notified with a fraud alert. I don't know enough facts, but breaches like this, if true, have to be addressed seriously.

These things unfortunately happen all to often across the world. In fact my concerns with offshoring of call centers revolve not so much about lost jobs but rather the loss of personal information that can and likely will be used against the individual and perhaps even the nation.

IMO the next terrorist attack could easily be to our banking system by stealing the information of our citizens and using it to disrupt.

Bob...By reading your post you think "it is being handled", I would assume you had a discussion wih someone from US about the situation. That in it self would concern me that someone is talking with a non employee about sensitive information. If someone from US were to make a comment about what occurred I believe a "no comment" instead of a "it's being handled" would have been more appropriate.

Bob...By reading your post you think "it is being handled", I would assume you had a discussion wih someone from US about the situation. That in it self would concern me that someone is talking with a non employee about sensitive information. If someone from US were to make a comment about what occurred I believe a "no comment" instead of a "it's being handled" would have been more appropriate.
