Qik/Shares Cut over

but they can go on for hours about how to position a product that they don't even know what it does. SSDD.

My company has this, too. We have three categories of people: a) Those who get stuff done; B) Those who talk about how to get stuff done; c) Those who decide what stuff needs to get done.

Technically, I am supposed to be in group B but end up in group A since I get so damn irritated talking about stuff endlessly with no one ever doing it. I firmly believe we could cut group B by 50 percent and suffer no ill consequences. Incidentally, most of group B are the second or third tier MBAs who desperately want to be in group C. Problem is, everyone in group C did their time in group A ... this is the only way they know what needs to get fixed.

Just a small correction.
Cutover to Shares is now scheduled for night of March 2/3, 2007. The date was picked based upon holidays. It also must be on Friday/Saturday due to some issues with SABRE for the transfer of information. SABRE and Shares will go into a read only mode somewhere between 6-10 hours before the cutover. FOS/DECS will be available throughout. This will effect some operations.

Access to native SABRE is "turned off" 2 weeks after a station completes its first QIK training cycle. One counter computer and 1 gate computer will continue to have access to native SABRE after the "turn off".

Starting in January, all agents will go through a 3 day QIK/Shares class. It's going to be a busy 2 months. On top of this, all baggage service agents must be trained on WorldTracer, a very unfriendly system compared to BMAS/SABRE. While it was an interesting approach to switching systems, it is still going to be mess in the East during March and April.

Piney, for once we agree. I was going to go for my MBA until I looked at what they do and/or don't do (as the case may be) and said forget it. I'd rather do my time in the trenches if it means it takes five or so years longer to advance. I think people respect you more when you know the details ... not just how to create a PowerPoint presentation that says nothing. MBA serves a purpose in some places (Wall St., CFO track) but otherwise is useless IMHO.

We will still be doing QIK/Sabre in Jan. We were originally doing 2 1/2 day classes (It can be done in 2 or even 1 1/2 if it were a regular class and not the usual filler training class), but have been cut to 2 days to get everyone done by the end of Jan instead of the end of Feb as originally planned.
As far as baggage, there was a memo (in station) put on the breakroom table on Fri, that effective Mon all claims must be done in BMAS. Thanks for the notice. Guess not everyone got the memo since I heard a couple were taken in Sabre and the manager got the tattle note and had a fit someone didnt follow directions. Maybe a little more notice and a better posting of the memo would have helped?

Shares will limit the agents job during difficult situations. US/WEST can’t even reissue tickets at the gate. US/WEST is not very familiar with irregular operation to the extent of US/EAST (9 express operators with all their problems, ATC, large hubs and focus city, code share) Continental uses shares but they have the ability to use native shares and apply command codes shares is very limited with out this function. American has their version of quick shares but they still use command codes when necessary. The shares helpers need to tell upper management what is going on in the real world instead of drinking the Kool-Aid. The customers will find out soon enough like they always do. Senior US/EAST is use to taking the problems and dealing with them directly on there own something new hires learn very fast or they are left behind. US/WEST is middle management/supervisory heavy so the agents can past the problems on to them. US/WEST wants the agents in the trenches to have less responsibility and pass the problems on..
