I'm not sure I agree with your assertion that the "global economy is heading into the toilet and down the drain."I think what Horton is missing is that the global economy is heading into the toilet and down the drain. The time to do this, if he's going to do it with any airline not just US is now, not later. 2013 will be tough... 2014 will be even very tougher still.
But even if it is heading into the toilet, then why does that support the need to merge RIGHT NOW and not later? Why would a worsening economy make it "tough" to merge in 2013? Or "even tougher still" in 2014? I just don't understand the connection between the worsening global economy in the next two years and increasing difficulty of merging US and AA in the next two years.
