Lets "assume" the Nicolau award and a new joint contract are in place as of today.

How has or will your life change?

Serious question. Serious responses please. Just answer logically/realistically. And dont say 'it doesnt matter b/c it wont ever happen'.

So far the responses are exactly as I figured they would be.

Can anyone provide a real rational answer?

No real big changes. US East will be allowed to bid PHX/LAS, US West will be allowed to bid PHL CLT etc. Will there be a land rush either way?..nope, it will equal out probably (ie 125 go west 100 go east). The big changes will be substantial pay raise for all pilots and vast improvement in QOL for east guys. A lot of unneeded drama on this subject, for what?

CRM would decrease, which would affect safety.

This is due to your history of disrespectful comments shown to posters. This is obviously a flame baited thread.

There are plenty of examples of opinions from the East pilots that participate on this board, which by the way is a very small minority, on how they feel about what is going on.

No trick question here.

You would think Nostradamus could make a prediction. No feelings or emotions involved just a simple question anyone should be able to give a logic based response to.

Tempting, Get back to you in 1 hour.

Really? East is that unprofessional?

Most intelligent pilots know that CRM is a two way street.

If you are flying with someone who was gifted twenty years seniority over you by an "award" that did not follow union merger policy, therefore you now have no hope of moving to the left seat for the rest of your career, in that position I would ensure that my duties were accomplished in excruciating detail, every nit questioned and if need be, written up. It would be the safest cockpit in the world.

20 mile fully configured finals would be the norm. All called traffic not seen would require vectors. One knot off at 500 feet would see a required go-around, either pilot flying (ask anyone, I've sent better people than you around). If I were FO and you try to take the aircraft to a place I think I cannot recover from, I would take the airplane from you, and would not give it back.

Would you then call my safe flight, unprofessional?

Didn't you ever wonder why the warning light dim/bright selector points to the left and not the right to select dim on a Boeing. Perhaps Boeing saw this very situation unfolding. Perhaps you do not have the experience in a Boeing, or any aircraft, to wonder.

I see.

So when all of those senior ex- Eastern, TWA, PanAm, Braniff, etc., pilots suddenly found themselves out of work and were looking for jobs, you were leading the charge for them to carry all of their seniority from their former carrier over to U and possibly bump all of those younger / junior / less safe U pilots out of the left seat so these "better" (older / more senior) pilots from those other airlines could take their rightful places?

Same with pilots coming from the military, right? If someone had 10 years experience flying in the military and started with U on 6/1/90, U/ALPA was fighting for him to receive a bidding seniority of 6/1/80? Am I correct? Because, after all, he would have been "better" and "safer" and somehow more deserving of seniority than the U pilot who started in 1981, no?

Funny, I don't recall hearing about that.

I have kids, wives and mother in laws, who could care less with what I have to say. With that in mind here is my opinion.

The Nicolau award will not be overturned. The timing and ability to implement the award is in question.

The company knows, as well as the FAA, that that if you enforce this award , the enthusiasm of the pilots will be dependent on how they reap the rewards of the ruling. I agree with a poster somewhere on this board who put it mildly, CRM ( Cockpit Resource Management) may be slightly compromised (tongue in cheek) because of the Nicolau award.

The company has three choices,:

Make everyone live with the award. (Disaster in the making for years to come.)

Offer buy outs. (Giving employees money more than minimum required, not likely.)

Run operations separately for a certain time frame with protections from furloughs in future mergers. (The reality is, not if a merger will occur, but when, because it is a certainty. )

Our opinions on this subject have been discussed infinitely . We should discontinue our debate of the legitimacy of this award, we should start negotiating possibilities of implementation. Whether we like it or not we will have to end up at some type of compromise that will be equally painful for all of us.

Because of my resolve you have two choices with me, compromise or demise. You can call this a tantrum, black mail, entitlement or similar observations. You can either try to understand human nature and instinct or be consumed by it.
