Question for East pilots

So when all of those senior ex- Eastern, TWA, PanAm, Braniff, etc., pilots suddenly found themselves out of work and were looking for jobs, you were leading the charge for them to carry all of their seniority from their former carrier over to U and possibly bump all of those younger / junior / less safe U pilots out of the left seat so these "better" (older / more senior) pilots from those other airlines could take their rightful places?

I was leading the charge that when the Shuttle dudes were arguing for Eastern DOH, I felt it necessary to point out that some 200 Eastern pilots were already on the property, should we honor the Shuttle request, then we should honor the former Eastern pilots also.

I got in a giant discussion with a former Eastern pilot hired by UAL deriding US for not hiring him with the 757 acquisition. I pointed out to him that Eastern took aircraft from Braniff without Braniff pilots. So, does he think the US dudes should do something different than he did?

When a company is ch7, thing are different than a company who is making money, like US was. Not certain I understand your point. Are you thinking, erroneously, that A&W bought US?

Same with pilots coming from the military, right? If someone had 10 years experience flying in the military and started with U on 6/1/90, U/ALPA was fighting for him to receive a bidding seniority of 6/1/80? Am I correct? Because, after all, he would have been "better" and "safer" and somehow more deserving of seniority than the U pilot who started in 1981, no?

Funny, I don't recall hearing about that.

Funny, I don't remember saying that. I am ex-military and would love your scenario, but, on reflection, it does not make sense. No airline, to my knowledge, has bought a military, or visa versa. So, how is that a comparable comparison? You like comparing nuts to bolts?

Aside from that, it is fairly obvious you are not former military. Your questions would likely be different. The military flies to kill, to convey passengers to kill others, per se. Different mission than any airline I know of.

Most intelligent pilots know that CRM is a two way street.

If you are flying with someone who was gifted twenty years seniority over you by an "award" that did not follow union merger policy, therefore you now have no hope of moving to the left seat for the rest of your career, in that position I would ensure that my duties were accomplished in excruciating detail, every nit questioned and if need be, written up. It would be the safest cockpit in the world.

20 mile fully configured finals would be the norm. All called traffic not seen would require vectors. One knot off at 500 feet would see a required go-around, either pilot flying (ask anyone, I've sent better people than you around). If I were FO and you try to take the aircraft to a place I think I cannot recover from, I would take the airplane from you, and would not give it back.

Would you then call my safe flight, unprofessional?

Didn't you ever wonder why the warning light dim/bright selector points to the left and not the right to select dim on a Boeing. Perhaps Boeing saw this very situation unfolding. Perhaps you do not have the experience in a Boeing, or any aircraft, to wonder.

At least by your post you're finally accepting the fact that you'll be swinging gear for an OC (original Cactus).

Lets "assume" the Nicolau award and a new joint contract are in place as of today.

How has or will your life change?

Serious question. Serious responses please. Just answer logically/realistically. And dont say 'it doesnt matter b/c it wont ever happen'.

It depends on what the joint contract looks like. Since that issue hasn't come close to it's fruition, there is no answer.

As a f/a, on the east, my response shall be determined when a T/A is put in writing because of the "me too" clause.

As for the "award"...I'll be happy to get off a trip and get paid for it if there is strife in the cockpit.

No, I accept the fact the the "award" will never be implemented as fact. Dabbling in fantasy, as the west folks do on a constant basis. is not a basis for acceptance.

I will happily swing gear for someone hired before me. After me, you are gonna have giant problems. In fact, I have (unintentionally) broken the arm of someone who tried to raise gear before I was ready. Sorry.

Hope you like life on the east side.

OBTW, don't take it personally, but, you may wish to look into a depilatory for your mustache. It looks like a furry worm on your upper lip.

Oh how I hope that you keep that attitude in fact please send a letter to the company explaining yous and others desire to not get to work on a contract. Please write the letter I will even spring for the stamps!!!

Once again, another thread has turned into more garbage.

Lets attempt to get back on track.

To one degree or another all of us think differently, it seems natural to assume that other people share our perceptions and interpretations of events. This assumption holds true until we reach a basic fundamental disagreement about something we both have experienced. The award has proven that.

I dont care about "merit","experience","who's right or wrong", etc.

The only thing that matters is REALITY.

Common sense will tell most of us that sooner rather than later this will become one operation whether we like it or not.

The company may whipsaw the West, the company may whipsaw the East. Legal precedents are in favor of West, but that does not preclude the possibility of fences in a CBA. As for the list being thrown out or re-ordered, that is very unlikely to happen.

So back to the question of REAL LIFE CONSEQUENCES of this situation.

Do you think the West will migrate in mass to the East? Vice versa? Equal base swaps? Will you upgrade sooner? Later?

Then the West won't mind being stAApled to the bottom of NW or CO. Y'all will get along just fine. Good luck, it's been fun!

Some of you Easties are such bitter people. Every post is filled with hopes of hatred and misfortune for the AWA pilots. It's no wonder USAir has a lot of customer complaints with an attitude like yours.

Those are both ALPA carriers so Merger Policy will be in effect. I have no worries. And besides, the next merger will use the Nic Award as a starting point whether the Easties like it or not.
