What's new

Racisists and Hypocrits

You really need to stick to arguing about unions and corporate policy.

I am sure you are aware that segregation was the law of the land into the 60's. By the way, that's the 1960's not the 1860's Not that it is an excuse or justification, but white were enjoying AA for the last 200 years in the Americas with nary a complaint from anyone, at least not anyone who counted.

I should think you would not have a problem getting a job on your won merits. Unfortunately there are parts of this country where people who are not white seem to be at a disadvantage. I have a friend her in TX who is Mexican. He has a new Jag. He gets pulled over about 1 or two times a months for being a Mexican in a Jag. I thought he was full of crap till we were driving one night and he got pulled over. Did not get a ticket. Cop wanted to see proof of ownership.

Let me know when someone in your family was claimed as property to be bought and sold like a side of beef. Let me know when one of your ancestors can claim that they were not permitted to drink out of the same fountain, sit in what ever seat they wanted to on a bus, got o what ever school they wanted too, eat at what ever dinner they wanted too, fight next to what ever soldier they wanted to in the name of THEIR OWN COUNTRY of which they were a CITIZEN OF. Let me know when they can lay claim with being labeled as biologically inferior to others by 'science' or that they cannot marry the person of their choice.

I do not think AA is the answer. I think education is. The schools need to be overhauled so that ever one gets a equal chance. We need to figure out a way to eliminate the economic divisions that have replaced the racial divisions along similar lines. A little over 60 years have passed since blacks were legally given equal rights to whites. While the legal change was at the stroke of a pen, the change in society was/is slower.

My folks came over on the ship as well. Did not speak a lick of American and had $10 bucks to their name combined. They busted their buts to get where they are. I cannot imagine how much harder it would have been had they been black. Look what the Red Tails had to do to get what they had. And they were Americans citizens.

Finally, there is a difference between responsibility and guilt. I am not guilty of the crimes committed by my fore fathers. While I am only a first generation American, I do consider my self responsible for my forefathers actions, both the good and the bad. American is responsible for the actions taken against the Native Americans, the Japanese Americans and the black Americans in this country.

To compare what your ancestors went through as whites to what a black Americans ancestors went through as property of whites and second class citizens compared to whites is hollow and disingenuous. Complain all you want about AA. I might even agree with you on a few issues. But you and I will never know what it is like to have people cross the street to avoid you simply because of your skin color. You and I will never know what it is like to be pulled over driving a Jag simply because you look like you don't fit.

And no, it's not OK to call Bush a chimp. Juvenile delinquents who have the education of a 1st grader do that. I have/had numerous issues with Bush but I use his name. To do other wise speaks volumes about the speaker and their argument.

Will you be happy if I donate a dollar towards reparations ? My Bad, Nobama's already doing that and more !

Garfield,

Ever notice how "they" will retort with a ..."yeah...BUT" !!

(A common practice of teenagers who are Never wrong.)

I submit that a better way would be for "them" to say......"(sadly) your Right", then ask..."as we move forward, what could be a better way, given that we know our Mistakes from past days" ?

I further submit that the "yeah..BUT" crowd, live in a continual state of Denial !

Guess who ??

1. "Off the Reservation"
2. "Honest Injun"

1. Sara Palin
2. Michael Steele

'nuff said' !!!!!!!!!!!!!

Not Really!

If every US Citizen that has ever uttered a similar "Figure of Speech" were aressted and charged with "Hate Speech" the entire US population would be in jail or awaiting trial.

Where does Political Correctness stop and Common Sense begin?

It;s kind of like Bill Clinton's remark about Barack Obama to Ted Kennedy, when he remarked, "You know a few years ago he'd have been serving us coffee"

Does that make Bill Clinton a racist? I don't think it does. Sadly what it really means was he dared to speak the truth as 40 years ago that was likely the future for a black man, especially in Clinton's home state.

People are so afraid of the truth today. Truth is I see 5 young black men walking towards me I heart races a bit and I think things I really shouldn't. However if you look at crime stats I have a legitimate reason to be fearful.

Just like if you live in NJ and you are black and drive through certain neighborhoods you're very likely to get pulled over for DWB (Driving While Black)!

These thing are worse than right or wrong they are reality and the sooner we face reality the sooner we move forward as a nation.

I can't seem to find Even a mere mention of Dr. MLK's birthday, (which as everyone knows is today), anywhere on this board !

Rather sad I think.

Hey, who knows..........maybe without Dr. King, the good folks of Selma Alabama would be Still Clubbing to(near death) people for gathering in public places, eating food at lunch counters or riding buses while being forced to sit in the Back. !

Where’s your Doctor King tribute?

Personally I always thought the WRONG Black Leader got the Holiday.

I have much more admiration for Malcolm X.

Because IMO he spoke the real truth. That the ways for the Black man to advance was economically NOT politically. That and he flat out scared the shite out of white America. Just a few examples for all of you:

I believe in a religion that believes in freedom. Any time I have to accept a religion that won't let me fight a battle for my people, I say to hell with that religion.
Malcolm X

I believe in human beings, and that all human beings should be respected as such, regardless of their color.
Malcolm X

I don't even call it violence when it's in self defense; I call it intelligence.
Malcolm X

I'm for truth, no matter who tells it. I'm for justice, no matter who it's for or against.
Malcolm X

If you don't stand for something you will fall for anything.
Malcolm X

If you have no critics you'll likely have no success.
Malcolm X

If you're not ready to die for it, put the word 'freedom' out of your vocabulary.
Malcolm X

In all our deeds, the proper value and respect for time determines success or failure.
Malcolm X

I think you have to consider where their beliefs were grounded. Malcolm and King were raised in two completely different worlds.

King was raised by loving parents in a comfortable middle class neighborhood and were well established in the Atlanta area. King was very educated, a great orator with a command of the English language. He had the ability to describe his dreams and promises in vivid detail. King was an excellent statesman who delivered moving speeches about peace and social equality. King did good in the name of goodness.

Malcolm grew up in an underprivileged home, in an underprivileged neighborhood with no real education to speak of. A young Malcolm experienced anger over witnessing his house being burned followed by his father being murdered. Shortly after these tragic events Malcolm’s mother suffered a mental breakdown that eventually split the two apart. Malcolm’s own view of the world was tinted with anger, bitterness and the desire to get back at the world that treated him unfairly.

Based on class issues, educational opportunities, level of household comfort and presence of loving parents I think it obvious where there beliefs were grounded.

It’s my belief that the RIGHT black man is being honored today.

King was a very spiritual man who lived his life according to the will of his God. His religious beliefs and faith in God were the driving force in his fight for equal rights. I’m convinced that when King died he died with the belief that he was doing the will of his God and viewed the progress towards equal rights and justice as nothing short of divine. Eat your heart out Garfield.

valid points one and all Tug,

When I look back I ask who would have raised his people to their highest level of achievement? I honestly think the answer is BOTH working their respective bases of support would have accomplished more together then either operating separately/

My heart is with Malcom for the very reason you cite. The ultimate outsider with a strong messagea nd the ballz to speak out early and often.

Sorry to say but it was the House Slave King versus the Field Slave Malcolm and that's why so many whites embrace Dr King and recoil in fear of Malcolm.

You get a hissed off person with the ability to speak out and an axe to grind you get a powerful force that allows the diplomats to take the credit for the strides made by the firebrand outsider. IMO that's what happened here

Doctor King was always careful not to reference his religious beliefs or Christian morals in his fight to change social policies. King never lead invocation in public or quoted bible verses in his campaign for equal rights. King recognized at a very early age that referencing such beliefs and morals would only distract from his urgent message. King knew that without God, life is everything and all things were possible. /s
