And if you wonder why TX job growth is more the MI is because TX opted out of the minimum wage law.
Yes, lets...
Texas is a disaster, period. No amount of neo-con talking points will show otherwise.
But, hey, if ranking #1 in minimum wage jobs, #1 in uninsured citizens, #3 in teen births, and so on is something you're into, go with it...
sorry, but we have to do a little truth checking.
.
First, Texas has the largest int'l border of any state in the US and the 3rd highest percentage of undocumented workers, behind CA and almost equal to AZ... suppose the number of undocumented workers affects those statistics?.
Yet TX has the lowest unemployment rate of those 3 states and below the national average. In fact, CA's unemployment rate is 3.5% points higher than Texas and more than 2 points higher than the national average.
Despite having just 66% of the population of California, Texas has 76% of the number of jobs.
Texas created more jobs in the year ended July than any other state (269K) and just 25K less than the next two CA (189K) and NY (106K) combined.
.
As the 2nd largest state by population, Texas is bound to be in the top ranking of just about any listing of the states.
.
Looking at per capita income, Texas is 4th among non-coastal states behind WY, CO, MN, and IL...
.
Texas is the largest state by GDP without a state personal income tax which means that the actual earnings of Texans moves up quite a bit relative to other states.
If Texas were a country of its own, it would be the world's 12th largest economy, comparable to Mexico and Texans have a per capita income comparable to Canadians.
.
Apparently, the number you don't like is that TX has one of the lowest unionization rates in the country.... oh, and its governor is now a leading presidential candidate.
You may not like Texans choice of leaders or its method of running the state but you cannot accurately argue that Texas is not doing well economically compared to its peers or that Texans don't benefit from the economic strength of the state.
BTW, the current economic disaster of the country would be Nevada with California right behind it.
