Republican controlled house says.."DEFUND Obamacare, or we're SHUTTING the GOVT. DOWN "

Yes the presidential budget asks congress for money to spend. Congress has to approve it or else you have what we have to today a shutdown. Either give me another credit card or a government shutdown occurs!! The house is done with the spending and taking a stand!! Sorry Obama no more money for you....can't keep printing money forever. Maybe if he wasn't such a dick of death to businesses, the economy would improve around here.

This shut down has nothing to do with the budget or lack there of. Sen. dems tried 18 times starting in Apr '13 to get a budget conference but the republicans denied it all 18 times. The republicans have planned this all along. They do not like ACA. Fine, get a bill through Congress and the WH. Can't do it. Deal with it. The republicans are using the debt ceiling to hold the country hostage. This is money that has already been spent. This has nothing to do with future allocations.

We all get that you don't like Obama. Good for you. Try focusing your efforts on getting the GOP to stop nominating bigger idiots than the dems do. Stop putting up people like McCain and Romney. Making crap up and denying the reality of what's going on right now will not get you a favorable out come.

By the way, Take a look at how austerity plans have worked else where and tell us how it will be different here. We need to start spending more money. We need to start pumping it into the economy in things like infrastructure. We get people to work and we get a return on the dollar.

Congress authorizes the spending and then decides they don't want to write the check.

The Congress that authorized the spending wrote a bad check, and promptly left it to another Congress to fund.

Fortunately, that's why the House is re-elected every two years. When they make dumb decisions, they get replaced quickly to minimize the damage.

Again, for the Constitutionally challenged, the House controls the purse. We still don't have a border fence because it was never funded, even though it was the law. What's good enough for the border is good enough for Obamacare.

If the people really want this, they'll replace the conservatives.

It's pretty clear that the IRS influenced the 2012 election by denying not-for-profit applications for conservative groups.

Now that more and more Obamavoters are getting to see the actual cost of Obamacare, I wouldn't hold out too much hope and change for 2014.

There's certainly no shortage of "I certainly support affordable healthcare, but why am I paying for someone else to get it?" reactions from liberals this week.

That's only going to grow as more people with existing insurance get cancellation notices, and more part-timers get forced into the exchanges.

And when you collapse the dollar, then what?

Notice all the 'affordable' health ins plans have a $6200 out of pocket?
I saw a lot of sticker shock over that.

Its pretty clear you aren't over the last election's results. How could those polls be so wrong?

Dell,

Seriously, if you, or they, think that is bad, should take a look at the "affordable" insurance policies that are available on the regular market to my 27 yr old step-daughter in TX pre -Exchange.

She is self employed and does quite well, well above the threshold for any subsidies, and has been buying her own.

There undoubtedly was a lot of sticker shock amongst those who have never shopped for or bought their own insurance.

That one is Nothing compared to the shock they were going to get when they eventually got sick or injured, or needing even the most minor surgery.

But then, of course, the hospital and drs would have been forced to eat the cost, and pass it on to you and I.

I've been all over it. She isn't spending nearly as much as you or I. So far the non exchange sites I saw parallel the gov't offerings.

Like I said, for something some one hears is affordable is BS.
The whole basis of this game is high deductible insurance and whether you can cop a subsidy......
I got a feeling when you get into a policy....and get a subsidy.....it will go away eventually......gotchya then.

I haven't checked thoroughly since the exchanges opened. Helped her through it originally, she says she knows what to look for now. It does appear that the exchange will make the comparison process easier. Lots of sorting through lots of apple/orange issues last time around.

Naturally, the non exchange offerings are going to have to be competitive, though I expect them to attempt to lure customers into paying premium prices for low cost "add-ons", a la the car dealer and his undercoating, nitrogen, etc.

Only natural.

Like them trying so hard to get people to renew before the exchanges opened, and they had to be competitive with them

I agree on your last sentence. Tell Obama to get that through his thick skull that you want to attract businesses to the US to stimulate the economy not drive them away like he keeps doing. The tyrant wants to impose more taxes, restrictions, healthcare, higher minimum wage, ect. All that does is drive business away and reduce hiring, further making the economy worse. Detroit is the most perfect example of Obama's wet dream. Huge government, complete democrat control, entitlements, heavy unionized....and guess what you accomplish?! A bankrupt city because you drove away business.

So no government restrictions? What about environmental and work environment? Let the market dictate it? Taxes? They are the lowest they have been for decades. Here's a news flash for you. The US is no longer the only economic power house in the world anymore. China, India, SE Asia are all developing. Jobs are going there because the labor there will work for pennies compared to US labor. Lets get rid of the restrictions on US corporations so they can drop the wages to what ever the market will bare. I'm sure they would never do anything not in the public's best interest. Don't worry about health care reform. Not like our health care system is not flawless. Not like people are not being deprived of health care or unable to afford it now. Not like people are not using the ER for primary care.

Funny thing about the ACA is that people actually do want it. When asked if they think people with preexisting conditions they say yes. When asked if they think everyone should have access to health care they say yes. When asked if the cost of health care is to high they say yes. When asked if they like ACA they say no even though most have no idea what it is.

Yep, the economy will really improve when when we cannot pay all the bills. Ask any business owner or CEO or economist if defaulting is good for the economy or will save us money long term.

Moody's offers different view on debt limit

One of the nation’s top credit-rating agencies says that the U.S. Treasury Department is likely to continue paying interest on the government’s debt even if Congress fails to lift the limit on borrowing next week, preserving the nation’s sterling AAA credit rating.
In a memo being circulated on Capitol Hill Wednesday, Moody’s Investors Service offers “answers to frequently asked questions” about the government shutdown, now in its second week, and the federal debt limit. President Obama has said that, unless Congress acts to raise the $16.7 trillion limit by next Thursday, the nation will be at risk of default.
Not so, Moody’s says in the memo dated Oct. 7.

The Moody’s memo goes on to argue that the situation is actually much less serious than in 2011, when the nation last faced a pitched battle over the debt limit.

Don't think in extremes. Government is important but only in moderation. Our founding fathers of this country believed in limited government and that is what made the USA so great. China and India have businesses setting up shop left and right with positive effects on their economy.

Funny thing about the ACA is that people actually do want it.

On behalf of the millions of working men and women we represent and the families they support, we can no longer stand silent in the face of elements of the Affordable Care Act that will destroy the very health and wellbeing of our members along with millions of other hardworking Americans.

We believe that there are common-sense corrections that can be made within the existing statute that will allow our members to continue to keep their current health plans and benefits just as you and the President pledged. Unless changes are made, however, that promise is hollow.

We continue to stand behind real health care reform, but the law as it stands will hurt millions of Americans including the members of our respective unions.

We are looking to you to make sure these changes are made.
