What's new

Republicans.....what do they intend to change?

It's not gonna happen. The majority of people who pay would find 18% tax as an increase. They would also find 18% tax as a decrease for the rich. And the real estate lobby would not allow no mortgage deductions.

Guess you missed every post before yours since you still think that tax brackets are an accurate measure of what people are really paying. I'd gladly by 38% taxes if I could only claim 6% of my salary/other income as "taxable". Brackets are meaningless in a world of deductions and tax breaks aimed at investments and business dealings. Why return to "who's on first" when we already made it to "i don't know" on second?

Duh. $500k in taxes is far more than I even earned in 2005 and Cheney makes far less than the top earners. I doubt he's even in that top 10% category. Take a Warren Buffet that makes billions. If he can whittle down to only owing 2%, that would be twenty MILLION dollars per billion earned. Hell yes that's alot. But for INCOME taxes, he wouldn't really be paying much relative to what he earned. It's easy to try to twist your numbers but you've got to understand that the top 1% doesn't simply make $100k. They make a ton and pay a very, very small portion of it to income taxes. Not fair but you keep supporting them b/c maybe you'll be in that group someday. It's funny how naive you can be, though.

...

Look, Cheney is in the top 1% of earners in this country based on his tax return. Look it up.
What you're confusing here is wealth and earnings. Warren Buffett does not earn billions. He's WORTH billions but he certainly doesn't earn billions. Same thing with Gates. The tax is on your INCOME not your WORTH. That's why it's called an INCOME tax. The fact remains the richest people in this country pay the majority of the income taxes. You can't get around that no matter how hard you try or how unfair you say it is. If you want a bigger tax break take a chance and run with it in the free markets we have here in this country. This class and money earned envy or as it was better said, "Cheney Envy" is a joke. Who are you to say they don't pay their fair share. I'm sure they can make cases as to how you don't pull your fair share either.

Who wants to leech? I just want them to pay their fair share. I just looked at my 2005 tax return. My tax rate was 6.33%. The difference is I did not make $8 million. Did not make $500k either. My taxable income was over 55% of my gross income. Cheney’s taxable income was only 6% of his gross income. That’s where the problem is. They do not pay their fair share. That is what I am p1ssed off at. The rich get richer and we, the middle class are paying the bill. I would love to pay 6% tax on only 6% of my gross income.

What you guys do not seem to get is that if you use Cheneys tax as an example, he only paid on 6% of his income. Yes he paid more in taxs but he did not pay tax on the same percentage of income that I did. I paid on 55% of my income, not 6% like Cheney. So those states on your link while they look very pretty, they do not tell the whole story. I had my tax’s checked out my a CPA and I took every deduction I could take. I do not have much left over for charities. I certainly do not have enough to donate so that I am only taxed on 6% of my income.

So, you boys want to try again?

They already pay 96% of the taxes that are paid now and you want them to pay more? You people are unfriggin believable!!
They do pay their fair share and then some yet you want more. It wouldn't matter what was posted on this subject because you people have it in your head they don't pay enough so keep taxing them until YOU feel they have paid enough and see where we are.
The problem is there are so many people in this country that just don't understand economics. Just like the tax cuts that Bush put in. If you ask demolibs it's a tax cut for the rich but in actuality it's a tax cut for EVERYBODY. They get a tax cut that is greater because they pay more. It's simple math for God's sake.
When the gov't gives a tax cut it's been proven the receipts in gov't collected taxes go up. Want to see a demolib politician's hair stand on end ask them to define the amount of a persons income that would qualify them to be "rich" in their propaganda to raise taxes on the "rich". What you'll find is it on those in this country that make in the neighborhood of $35,000.00. Now those of you that make more than $35k do you consider yourself to be "rich"? You are in the eyes of the demolibs so elect them and watch YOUR taxes go up along with the rest of higher earners. Who will be able to afford to pay more? You or the super rich?

Thanks, Aeroman, for taking it back to whole dollars instead of the intelligent percentages that I was putting out there. My taxes went down nada with these "tax cuts". That would be 0%. Even if I ended up qualifying for capital gains, estate, and other breaks, that PERCENTAGE would be far less than the breaks given to the ultra-wealthy. And those, like Buffet, DO earn TONS of money. You confuse salary as being an only source of income yet those that are extremely rich and aren't so due to salary net millions per year in investment income. I posted the actual tax return for Cheney, for God's sake...it's in front of your friggen eyes. His INCOME was nearly 10 million. Sure...his salary as VP is something like 100k (don't remember that part of civics/gov't studies but can tell you that it ain't much more) but he had an INCOME that was ten times that due to investment. Now...look at the tax breaks given and you will see that most of the breaks are on estates and investments. These are breaks to the wealthy b/c I don't know about you, but my estate is worth something written in red and surrounded by parentheses and my investments are laughable at best. I could cash them out and head to McD's and maybe biggy-size my meal. I'm sick of explaining the same exact thing over and over only to have the next person come on and play dumb again. I give you more credit than that. Any idiot can figure out that 1% of a billion is much more than 30% of a hundred. I'm talking about the percentages...i.e. "fair share". And please don't bring up tax brackets b/c I've gone over that a thousand times. I think you really grasp what I'm saying but your allegiance to an entire platform won't let you not defend a piece of it that truly is hurting you as much as I (unless you are in the top 5% of EARNERS).

What part of this are you missing? I paid taxs on 55% of my income. Cheney paid tax on 6% of his income. When he pays tax on the same percentage of his income that I do, they he will be paying his fair share. Of course, I would be willing to pay tax on 6% of my income that he did as well.

Oh look the working mans party, pays their fair share.

Teresa Heinz Kerry's Tax Bill Lighter Than Bush's

"NEWSMAX -- Sen. John Kerry and his ketchup heiress wife, Teresa Heinz, paid a meager 15.2 percent of their gross income to the IRS last year, new data released Tuesday by the Kerry campaign shows.

The figure is around half the amount of income tax paid by President Bush and his wife, Laura, as a proportion of their household income.

The Bushes paid $227,000 in federal taxes on a gross 2003 income of $822,126. Their IRS bill amounted to 28 percent of their household income.

But Heinz Kerry, who, as one of the richest women in the U.S. files separately from her husband, paid just half that amount as a percentage of her income, forking over to the IRS $587,000 on a whopping $5 million-plus 2003 gross income." (NewsMax.com 5/11/04)

He he he....speaking of working men.....

Kerry's 2003 return illustrates the extent to which Kerry's lifestyle is subsidized by his wife. Apart from the income from the painting, Kerry's Senate salary would not be enough to pay the property taxes on the several residences they own.

Must have lots of "yes dear" in that household....

Bet she even gets on top.... 😱

On the other hand, should the GOP maintain control of both houses—should Karl Rove's confidence turn out to be justified—the Democrats would be all but finished as a political party.

Possible last gasp for breath from the left??

Here 'yall may need these Wednesday....

Ramsey Clark is the epitome of the democratic party and all that it really is, anti-American, anti-God anti anything decent and humane. This is the real essence of the democratic party who support such groups as the ACLU, Amnesty International, NAACP and other excrements the leftist celebrate. This is also why short of Satan himself being on the GOP ticket I will never vote Democrat.

You're wrong yet again. Salary is just one portion of a persons income and just because their SALARY is low doesn't mean their income is. YOU'RE the one that said Buffet earns BILLIONS and came up with some phantom 2% number which is precisely why I don't think you understand the differences between wealth, salary and income.
I don't have a class envy problem like obviously you demolibs do. I keep working harder to make it to the upper echelon of earners and when I make it I will pay my fair share and if demolibs are in control I am sure I will be paying not only my fair share but a lot of others that don't pay their fair share as well.
What you're talking about is income redistribution for the betterment of society. That's the demolibs ultimate goal and you're a pawn in their elaborate chess match. Everyone earns a phantom figure no matter what they bring in. A bum on the street? No matter, you get the same as the guy that busts his ass 60 to 80 hours a week. How long do you think that guy will work like that just to bring home the same as those that are a drain on society.
