Retirees

father,

Wait to see if you can afford that steak dinner. Just from talking to younger furloughed pilots on this subject, the penalty can be pretty stiff. Obviously, the younger you start drawing benefits the bigger the penalty.

On the other hand, once the PBGC has all the info on funding levels and such, it is possible that those who were old enough to retire early three years prior to plan termination won't have any penalty. That's my case - I could have retired the day after our plan was terminated or wait till I'm 60 and the PBGC benefit is exactly the same.

Thanks everyone--thank heavens I have insurance at new airline---could never ever afford the Cobra costs. Anyway, I did call the feds about the retirement and found them to be more than helpful. Got my check in the bank okay--just seems the bank web site and teller phone was down. By the way, I retired with 16 years service and age 55 and make $142 per month and some change. It's okay though--it pays the car insurance. One less bill for me.

Just talked to HCTC. 1. They will receive info from PBGC (but had not receved mine). They usually get info 1 or 2 times a month. So-o-o-o it may be a while.
2. Have to be enrolled in COBRA before can get HCTC. I have NOT received packet from COBRA as of today. Lady at HCTC said she had *heard* they were being mailed this week. She said to make copies of all COBRA docs filled out (front and back of forms) to 1. keep for our personal record and 2. to send to HCTC.

I have no idea how we are to pay for insururance. Hope we are not "dropped" during this transition time. Oh well, guess another call to Benefits is in order. Anybody have the phone number for COBRA ?

🙂 Thanks for the info! Will have more info here later today I hope. Retired 5 years ago. Got my usual pension check for March on Feb 26. I think we can still continue Company Cobra on a month to month basis before inrolling in HCTC. Don't know what would happen if Company goes Chapter 7 in future. Don't know if we could still get insurance under HCTC later. Will check.......(Left at 55 with 35 years there, 60 now). "The older you get, the quicker time seems to go by.".....Later!

🙂 OK....Here is the latest: Company is supposed to send out notification that Company Medical is dropped for retirees. We have to wait for notice in mail. Then you have to contact State quilified Medical Insurance Company (such as Blue Cross, Blue Shield) for HCTC approved Plan (Cobra). Then you fill out questions in HCTC Kit mailed to you. I would hope instructions from the Company will be included on this whole issue. More Info from Company should be in the mail soon. Just have to wait till we get the info. Hang Loose Till Then!.........Later!
