Ric Receives Grant Money For Lcc

It has been discussed here that RIC was applying for a federal grant to help lure a LCC. RIC has now received the grant. I betcha they use it to pull in SWA, especially since Herb stated his interest in RIC a few years ago.

Richmond is also actively recruiting jetBlue. Once jetBlue starts receiving their Embraer 190's, (sometime in 2005) they might be in a better position to enter RIC than Southwest, since they seem to be focused on growing PHL.

Opening RIC would help Southwest build up PHL. RIC-PHL is about the same length as PHL-BDL, which Southwest is going begin serving in October.

Since SWA wrote a letter of support for the RIC grant application, it would seem that they have a leg up on becoming SWA's next market.

WN has already committed to serving RIC in the future. They told RIC airport and the state of Virginia when they chose ORF as their first Virginia station. I expect to see RIC added sometime in 2005.
