Wed SGK announces that they ill be pulling funding for PP.

With new pro-life top exec at helm, Susan Komen breast cancer charity yanks grants to Planned Parenthood
The Komen foundation said it had a new policy against funding any organization under government investigation and a Republican congressman from Florida recently launched an inquiry into whether Planned Parenthood uses public money to fund abortions.

PP rakes in well over $400k in donations in about two days. This is the amount SGK would have given in Grants. Bloomberg offered to match up to $250k.

Planned Parenthood says Komen decision causes donation spike

The organization had raised more than $400,000 from more than 6,000 online donors as of Wednesday afternoon, compared with the 100 to 200 donations it receives on an average day, said Tait Sye, a spokesman for the Planned Parenthood Federation of America. He said donations were still coming in.

The group also launched a Breast Health Emergency Fund to ensure funding to affiliates that will lose their Komen grants. That fund received a $250,000 gift from the family foundation of Dallas philanthropist Lee Fikes and his wife, Amy.

“People respond powerfully when they see politics interfering with women’s health,” Sye said. “That’s why we’ve seen a tremendous outpouring of support.”

Fri, SGK said 'Oops, my bad'. They will fund all existing grants.

Susan G. Komen Foundation Apologizes for "Recent Decisions," Pledges to Restore Planned Parenthood Funding
We want to apologize to the American public for recent decisions that cast doubt upon our commitment to our mission of saving women's lives.

The events of this week have been deeply unsettling for our supporters, partners and friends and all of us at Susan G. Komen. We have been distressed at the presumption that the changes made to our funding criteria were done for political reasons or to specifically penalize Planned Parenthood. They were not.

Our original desire was to fulfill our fiduciary duty to our donors by not funding grant applications made by organizations under investigation. We will amend the criteria to make clear that disqualifying investigations must be criminal and conclusive in nature and not political. That is what is right and fair.

I bet the people running SGK did not see this back lash coming. Thanks to Handel, PP has twice as much money as they would normally get to help even more women. The internet is a very potent tool.
