What's new

Rumor has it that the Flu hit Dallas hard this X'mas

Would you feel the same way if you had to spend an extra day or two away from your family over xmas because of someone 'sending a message'?

I have worked MANY a holiday at AA over the past 30 years! AWAY FROM MY FAMILY!
I never minded working MANY a holiday over the past 30 years because it was worth it to work! But what was gained over the last 4 decades was taken away under AA' bankruptcy gun pointed at our heads! These greedy bastards are getting hundreds of millions of dollars in bonus pay BECAUSE OF EMPLOYEE SACRIFICE! WHAT DON'T YOU UNDERSTAND, MJK??????????

Mechanics are due to get a $.43 an hour raise in April while management is getting thousands all the way up to millions!

What did you lose, MJK?

These greedy AArogant bastards shared in NO sacrifice!

Keep in mind, employee morale will worsen as we approach the "PAYDAY" for management to receive their bonuses.

AArogant management are preparing to receive their checks and already visiting the local Yacht and Mercedes Benz dealerships! This is the same management that will tell you that these payouts are well deserved and in line with the rest of corporate America. They will tell you that these payouts are "contractual" and cannot be altered or revoked.
But they had no problem threatening bankruptcy so the unions would drastically alter their contracts.

What a load of crap. The sick list was just as high (proportionately) when profit sharing was being handed out. This is not a message being sent. This is a bunch of premadonnas (pilots, tkt agents, FA’s and who ever else had to work) who think they are entitled to have the holiday off. Mean while passengers who help pay our salary are inconvenienced and co-workers who show up to work have to carry the work load.

I always hope that every year when senior management gets their ass dragged down to SOC to see what is going on they are shocked to see it so screwed up. I always have a glimmer of hope that people will start to get fired but then I remember who I work for and with and realize that nothing will change. The people who call in sick each year will e allowed to get away with screwing over their co workers and life will just go on. When people start loosing their job things will change, till then, it will be the same old crap each year.

Given that every other major airline is or was in Bankruptcy, I have a feeling it was not a threat. If you feel this screwed over then get a new job with the perfect company. Why do you have to screw over your fellow employee’s just because you are pissed off?

I remember not too long ago before 9/11 and the subsequent pay cuts, not many mechanics called in sick on a holiday. Not many at all. It got worse AFTER the concessions were taken from us and people said it is no longer worth sacrificing being away from our families on a holiday.

The pay rate was for working a holiday was well worth coming in.
I stated that morale will worsen once these fat cats receive their pay out. Sick calls will increase as we approach bonus payday. That is a fact of life.

You say that we should not screw our fellow workers because we are pissed off. But it is ok for management to screw us while they never shared in any sacrifice?

And I would never dream of leaving this company. I like, hopefully, thousands of other AA employees will stay on the job being disgruntled and eventually drive the stock into the gutter because AA management has defended their greed by saying much of their pay out is based on stock performance!

And another thing: Before you say I may find myself out of a job....If AA ever gets to me in a furlough based on my seniority, THEY WILL BE OUT OF BUSINESS before they get to me...

Why quit this company to go work for another? GREEDY MANAGEMENT EXISTS EVERYWHERE IN CORPORATE AMERICA!

BULL####!

Do you think this AArogant management would want to cede control over their compensation and bonus cash to a bankruptcy Judge?

Also, the TWU would have us work for minimum wage before they grow a set of balls and not risk losing union dues!

Do you think the other airlines management is any different from ours?

Not sure about the mech numbers. I know that the FA numbers are no differnt now then they were 10 years ago.

Shutting the airline down or driving the stocks down only screwes over your fellow co workers. Senior managment will not be affected. Carty is CFO for Dell and the world has not stopped turning. They will all make out just fine becasue it is the nature of the beast. The only people your actions will affect are people like me who are just trying to make a living.

Boy, this management bonus crap just won't die. Get over it people!!

We had 20 sick calls, 12 out on ID, 5 on vacation and 9 granted holiday off at LGA yesterday.

Suffice to say forced overtime letters and part time extension notices were the gifts given by management.

Strange they cut the schedule so drastically on Thanksgiving but basically operate a full schedule on Christmas.

Calling in sick to "send a message" only sends the message that you have no commitment to the people you work with on a daily basis.

Sure. Once I am returned what was taken from me, (yes, I voted NO, but the twu saw otherwise), PLUS an addjustment for the time I "shared the sacrifice" related to inflation.

Once that is taken care of I's be happy to "get over it".

Ok so everyone is claiming a "message was sent"

The bigger question:

WAS A MESSAGE HEARD?

I remember commuting home <TWA> and I was on the jump seat a full L1011 from STL-MIA. The crew had a full hot lunch service and they were short crew. I asked the FSM <purser> if I could help and she thanked me and told me no. Her answer was that it was the companies fault and I would not be covered if I was injured....and if the service fell apart, oh well.

I returned to my J/S in E zone and after awhile I looked out the window and realized we were just about to pass over TPA. Most of Y still had trays and the pick up service was just starting and you have about 30 minutes left. I decided this was a safety issue and grabbed a empty meal cart and helped the back end finish picking up. On the L10ll all the carts had to stowed in the lower galley. You would think that the FSM would notify the C/P that they were not ready...but noooo. If I had not assisted this would had been a mess. The other f/a's thanked me, but I was admonished by the FSM. That ended my assisting while off duty. 🙁

Miles, I'm one of those FSM's (TWA kind),that would never let a dhd f/a (or js)work, but not for the reasons you listed. Staffing is a negotiated item and at TWA we "enjoyed" very good under staffing pay, (an hour of flight pay for each block hour) and if the Co was willing to send us out "short" then we worked to the best of our abilities. I never did not finish a service although sometimes it wasn't "pretty". I was also mindful of those on furlough and the fact that their not being on the property was magnifed during the holiday shortages. My crews all knew me well enough to understand that I was not trying to "punish" them but adhere to our CBA. I have always found it iteresting that front line customer service is one of the first cuts in trying financial times. When airlines are trying to recapture brand loyalty, service is one of the cheaper fixes. I had too much experience with mangt. patting themselves on the back for the "savings" and then being dismayed at the thought that our "product" was not viewed as "the best". That is where the paying customer is hurt. Perhaps some of those bonus payments should have been allocated into enhanced crew staffing and front line ticket and gate staffing. I guess my paradigm is radically different than AAs. I'm a firm believer in "manage up". Merry Christmas! It sure is nice to have paid time off over Christmas and New Years. No inversing and extended trips and although I miss many of the wonderful passengers, I don't miss the holiday airline games.

Only message I heard was that some folks need to be canned.
I have worked many a flight where I nonrev in uniform. I feel guilty sitting on the jumpseat and watching 2 f/a's run up and down a full cabin. At the same time, who is to say that alot of these flight attendants aren't sick? I am off for Christmas but because I flew so much the first two weeks, I have been sick as a...well as an old flight attendant.

Because it is statistically impossible for the sick list to jump nearly 100% in 4 or 5 days and then go back down to normal 4 or 5 days after the new year every year like clock work. If it is, then I strongly suggest you call the CDC because there is a holiday epidemic that they are obviously unaware of.

Good grief. Think before you post will you.
