Rumors Of War

I think there's a good chance that the TA will pass and the IAM will be company lapdogs, like the pilots. The problem is that it won't make any difference in the mid to long run. The financial bleeding will now increase with the DAL fare war and SWA in PIT and coming-soon to CLT.

Seems U's judge is willing to grant unlimited get-out-of-jail-free cards to the buffoons running the company . . . . . never mind what it's doing to everybody else. Gutting your labor contract and work rules, kissing off your pension, and going to bottom-feeder status is not something to puff you chest out about.

I can see the mechs that know that thier gone, going for the severance and the flying. It,s light at the end of the tunnel for them. This also goes for someone retiring soon. The real losers are gonna be the ones who are stuck in the remaining hell hole of a job. Yes, they'll have a job and they might be able to pay some bills, but working conditions and no time off will be crap. They will be ruined individuals like a beaten spouse that eventually believes they deserve it. I think that if the contract is abrogated everyone shares the pain instead of some making out better while others fail. All these variables make predicting the outcome of any vote impossible. Just remember, if you think your a winner in this situation, you'll probably be a loser. If you think your a loser, you have no where to go but up. The couragouse will vote for the greater good, the cowards for themselves. I would vote for the airline industries future myself. Right now it doesn't look too bright. Yes, I'm an aviation loser, but things are looking up!

What allot people seem to forget in this mess is the price of fuel. How can U possibly survive with the current price of fuel being as high as it is?

You cannot have a successful anything if you run all positives or all negatives. It takes both to keep a balanced perspective as it does in nature.
Electricity will not work without positive and negative.
It takes a proton, neutron, and electron to keep an atom in balance.

If every employee was all postive you would have an out of balance company in which the employees were living in fantasy land.

If you had all negative employees the workplace would be hell to work in.
It takes both to maintain a balanced viewpoint.

This is where the disconnect really lies.  I believe, having spoken to a number of mechs over the holidays in/around PIT that the "no job" thing for a mechanic (especially in light of the current proposed payrates at U) is a non-starter.  Unlike the pilot group, they can replace their income without years of waiting.

That, and let's be real:  44% or so are going to vote no, since they will lose their jobs regardless of the outcome of the vote.  That leaves 56% to make the decision.  Of those, how many will be displaced, lose income, etc.

All the other workgroups can continue to beat the mantra of "a job is better than no job," and for pilots, that's probably true.  It's not necessarily that way for the mechanics.

This series of facts has some people who frequent this board (mostly pilots) all but wetting themselves, but it really is outside your control now.  Sit back, relax, have a beer.

I think, and hope you are right.

You guys already voted it down once.

Most mechanics that I know have been through a few carriers already. One thing that is noticable about the EAL guys is that they have pride. Their pride shows and they stick together even at their current employers. I've never met one that regrets shutting down EAL and not submitting to Lorenzo. They knew that he would keep coming back. They know that had they given in that we all would have made even less money up to this point.

The EAL guys stopped the concessions train cold. We all benifitted.

Now we have to look at what will happen with those mechanics at USAIR who vote yes, only to see the company shut down a year or so later. Wherever they go they will be the guys that agreed to three rounds of pay and benifit cuts, and they will probably deny that they voted yes. I doubt that they would be able to carry themselves with the same pride that the EAL guys do.

They will suffer a lifetime of shame.

If the mechanics vote yes they are worse off than if they vote No. Unlike other workers we can go elsewhere and get what USAIR is offereing, working days, with weekends and holidays off to boot.

Pilots are the biggest losers if USAIR shuts down. Their chances of ever seeing a Captains seat at a major airline are pretty much nil. Mechanics that go to another carrier are back at top pay in 5 years.

I fail to see the point of discussing whether or not the TA, agreement, or whatever passes.

It is merely a formality as the Judge has tossed out the contract. All that remains is whether or not U saves the millions in severance payments.

It is time to face the music.

Yes! Let's shut down so Bob and his buds can breathe a little easier since their's less competition afoot. Talk about self-serving!

You're a real trip BOB. You want others to tow the line so YOU can reap the benefits.

Bob Owens,
Did you finish derailing that concession train at AA already?

usfliboi,

Just because the majority of the f/as voted in the proposal, DOES NOT MEAN MORALE IS TURNING.

Negative sentiment still exists, boi, and the company will have to focus on this as a priority, otherwise, there is no increase in productivity from the workers...kapeesh???

With regard to the mechanic vote, it could go either way....keep in mind not everyone votes on contracts.

For example: AFA members....1600 out of 5,300, didn't bother to vote at all on this proposal. So, it shows apathy still abounds.

Yeah, we heard this first from the pilots, then from the agents, then from the flight attendants... And they each passed their agreements by a comfortable margin.

Thing is, most people say one thing at work to blow hards like yourself DDude, and then vote another way in private. And when it comes down to it. Those that know they will be able to remain will most likely vote yes, and even some of those that will be layed off will vote yes as they would rather get unemplyment with a sick bank cash out, and travel bennies to use than to join you in your so called "war" and have nothing but IAM strike pay.

It is not a hard choice. Something is always better than nothing.

Vote YES and be a scab, or Vote NO and be a hero? U.S.AIR Mechanic's don't be scabs like the mechanics here at AA. You guys have a chance to redeem yourselves, a chance I wish would happen to us here at AA.
