Plus your hours are pensionable only up to a certain number, which I think is in the 80s. So if you fly 120 instead of the 85 (or whatever the number is) the only thing you get is a bigger paycheck, but the extra hours over the maximum will not affect the pension.

True, but if DFW is any guide, a number of them had been flying 30 hrs/mo or less for several years--planning to go back to full-time flying when they "got near to retirement." Maybe, now they are realizing that they have HAD their best 4 years and are trying to put aside some money to make up for the shortfall in their pensions.
