Schedule Synergies

More routes will be added to the August schedule this weekend as a result of increased aircraft utilization between the east/west system.

Because the east will be flying: LAS-FLL, LAS-FLL #2, LAS-TPA, PHX-ORD #6, PHX-CUN#1, PHX-SEA#1, and PHX-BOS #4...the west will: retain PHX-DCA #1-3, add PHX-ATL #5, upgrade express flights to mainline on PHX-LGB, RNO, & SAT, continue to fly PHL-PDX

This is only some of the changes that are suppossed to be made; I guess we'll have to wait for the others. In any event, good news for US

PS: I apologize in advance if this is hard to read or understand

Here's the blurb from TheHub as posted on A.net:

SCHEDULING SYNERGIES COMING LATE AUGUST
May 16, 2006

One of the benefits of our merger is the synergy we create by doing a lot of things more productively - including improving aircraft utilization (that is, flying airplanes with paying customers at the highest yields more productively across the system).

Our aircraft utilization has increased steadily on both the East and West side since the integration began, and that’s a good thing, reflected in our first quarter earnings. It’s a steppingstone for more improvements down the road.

With that as the backdrop, management and labor leaders sat down this week to talk about planned schedule changes on both networks that will be reflected in our schedule load into Sabre and SHARES this weekend.

The following chart provides information on some of the network changes that are coming:

New East Flying… …Creates New West Opportunities
LAS-FLL #1..........PHX-SEA
LAS-FLL #2.......... PHX-DCA #1-3 remains West metal
LAS-TPA..............PHX-DCA #1-3 remains West metal
PHX-ORD #6.........Add PHX-ATL #5
PHX-CUN #1.........Up-gauge Express flights to mainline: PHX-LGB/SAT/RNO
PHX-SEA #1.........Up-gauge Express flights to mainline: PHX-LGB/SAT/RNO
PHX-BOS #4.........PHL-PDX with West aircraft (previously PHL-SEA during Apr/May)

FLL-LAS is a surprisingly high yield market, but it was always a challenge to schedule with the long West stage lengths and limited a/c. We actually removed a PHX-PHL redeye to move it to FLL-LAS at one point.

There's lots more coming...

Wow, it looks like east hit the mother load. West gets the shaft.

Jeez, again with the "one side vs. the other side" deal. US East and US West will sink or swim together and arguing about which side's getting the "shaft" isn't going to help this airline swim.

Fact is, US West already had extremely high aircraft utilization, whereas US East tended to have more jets sitting around longer. Part of the whole "synergies" deal is to improve US East utilization - so obviously using the US East jets more means more routes operated by US East, freeing up US West aircraft to bump outsourced Express flying.

Man, never thought I'd see someone complain about a move to increase US Airways mainline flying

No one's getting "the shaft".
Its all one company, duh.
Flying is being shifted around equally.
Utilization is being improved over-all.
Go read the whole memo on compass or thehub.
I read it, and it makes complete sense.
Or mebbe you don't even work at US?

luvn737s doesn't work for US. another pot stirrer.

Maybe they should have considered the utilization before they chose to get rid of perfectly good Airbuses in the west. "Sharing the pain" was a poor business decision, IMHO.

The fact is that currently there are two separate airlines. One side is being rewarded for their past sacrifice and one side is apparently being punished for their reluctance to do the same. The difference in block hours tells the tale.

And how do you bump contractually obligated Express flying?

you do not work for airways so mind your business.

Is your reading comprehension lacking? US West is increasing mainline service on PHX-SAT/RNO and inaugurating mainline service on PHX-LGB, a city pair which is currently all-Express. Those Express aircraft will thus be freed up for other service - presumably augmenting existing city pairs or perhaps inaugurating new Express service elsewhere.

So West gets to take back what they used to have (aside from ATL, which is new) and has PHL-SEA taken away, Express is not reduced, only re-deployed (perhaps on other west routes), and east takes over long-haul, productive routes like PHX-CUN and PHX-BOS. In addition, they get all the new 757's and if integration gets dragged out, all the E-190's.

Yep. Got it.

If this were post-integration, who would care. But it's not.

Actually, east is losing mainline flying in CLT to the Mesa/AWest commuter that has been shoved to the easts side of the house from the west. That is partially what has allowed west to start doing those markets again.
