Seasonal Service (on Mesa) to Telluride

Ok, great news on some seasonal ski service (yeah, its on Express, but many people will be connecting in PHX from mainline!).

Also, does scheduling really think 15 min turns are possible anymore (even on a Dash 8)? It takes that long to fuel the plane, let alone deplane and reload.

Just curious if anyone has been to the airport in telluride? I was out and I drove up and took a quick look and man that is one tiny place and the approach looks scarry as heck to me. Not sure I want to ride in a Dash or any plane into Telluride.

But it probably is a real money maker given the wealth of the area.

I've taken props and jets in there. Not for the meek.

With all the money, would they want to be on a DH8 that long?

For those of you who are unfamiliar with Telluride regional airport (TEX). You have 2 choices

1. Seasonal DH8 HP express flight
2. Great Lakes Beechcraft 1900 DBA Frontier express and United express.

Trust me when I say the DH8 is a much better option.

It's quite a strip. Decent length though - 6800 ft. But no precision approaches, so how many flights are diverted in season for low ceilings below MDA?

Decent runway length only one little snag:

The airport elevation is 9,078 feet.

Many people put down props but they are far better suited for airports like this than any jet out there. They may not be as fancy but they have far better climb performance and don't race toward the hills, excuse me, towering peaks of death  , like a jet will. 😛

I didn't realize it was that high. Why don't they do Vail as well with the weekly flights from CLT and PHL? Wouldn't it make sense to focus on one, or is it that the West doesn't like Vail?
