Single agent workforce makes debut

TEMPE (theHub.com) - Yesterday was another milestone date for combining US. Instead of working in separate shifts for pre-merger US Airways and pre-merger America West employees, agents started work at all airports yesterday in their new shift/bid assignment as one group of employees. While our customers will still see two different sets of uniforms, agents are integrated from bid/scheduling/work perspective. Agents are now able to put in transfer requests, swap with one another, work OT and get better acquainted with their fellow employees.

Why different uniforms? Is this a contractual thing or just a matter of LCC not unifying the airport agents in the same clothing yet?

Probably because the operations are not merged as yet. It's still AWA operating as USAirways. Or it could be as you suggest, just waiting to dress the combined work force in the new uniforms sometime to the near(?)future.

Q: When will the new uniforms be available?

A: We’re shooting for January 2008, assuming the upcoming wear test goes well. After that, we need to analyze the results of the wear test, order the fabric, produce the uniforms for the fit lines, conduct fittings for approximately 10,000 employees in eight major cities, place the orders, manufacture the uniforms and ship them to employees.

As the new uniforms are to be issued next year, it won't make sense for the AWA agents to purchase the US uniforms; and then have to again purchase new ones next year.

Why not go to the Local Wal-Mart and buy the clothing off the shelves. Does the customer actually think what the agent wears is gonna change their mind of what US Airways is about? Its not the clothes that make the employees, its their passion. They want to dress the employees up in Tuxes and Evening Gowns, only to serve you at Taco Bell!

Company mouthpiece.

Truly amazing. He cannot figure out what it is he does for a living.

Pilot,

Do you think anybody gives any credence to the comments made by somebody who can only attempt insult people for posting US Airways information?

I and most rational people recognize insults are nothing more than a lack of ethics because people who bait, antagonize, or otherwise challenge people for no other reason but to argue lack character.

My kids do not insult others and are more mature than that. In my opinion, those like yourself who hide behind a keyboard and insult an individual are simply cowards who are afraid to identify them self.

When would now be a good time to get over your "aviation anger" and your career status because as Elizabeth Kenny said, "He who angers you conquers you."

When I saw the title, I thought that it meant that all work on aircraft would be done by a single agent.

I figured it was a cost-saving move to increase executive bonuses.

PineyBob,

What I find interesting about your comments is that it seems as if it's the "pot calling the kettle black."

When you typed your comments were you looking in the mirror?

I know it's hard to believe that with all the updates on uniforms folks don't understand why there are separate uniforms. As a matter of fact, the plan is to have the uniforms sourced through Wal-Mart, this way employees can get the best possible price for their uniforms and get a lot of flexibility in choosing places to purchase the uniforms. It's get one more way to make it difficult for the employees to get uniforms.

PineyBob,

Do you really think people take you seriously when you insult them or make a personal attack? Have you ever thought that your personality and communication style may make your opinions irrelevant at CHQ? Something to think about...

What's interesting is that this topic was provided to discuss the "single agent workforce makes debut" and the same old disgruntled people turn it into personal attacks. Some things never change...

Do you really take yourself seriously? Just saying.
