Southwest jet’s front wheels ‘collapse’ at LaGuardia

Heard tonight from a Southwest captain I know...word is going around that the incident may be pilot error. That the landing was "too nose down." (At least that is the interpretation I took from the slope of my friend's hand.)

Jim, I would love to comment on your post but I would rather wait for the absolute final outcome after the investigation is complete. I read a couple of articles that says there is video of the landing that did land nose gear first, which would support what you are saying, however, I have not been able to pull this video up. The video is suppose to be from the LGA airport field cameras. But my personal opinion is the same as you describe, just don't want to predict until the final word comes in. You do have a good source it sounds like. Stay tuned. I hope you understand why I will not comment any further...

Guess it is official now:

Washington (CNN) -- The Southwest Airlines jet that crash landed at New York's LaGuardia airport on Monday met the runway with its nose gear first, according to federal accident investigators.

The unusual landing configuration is the surest clue yet as to why the Boeing 737s front landing gear collapsed and the plane skidded down the runway.

The National Transportation Safety Board said video and other sources provide evidence that the "nose gear (made) contact with runway before main gear."

Boeing has repaired much worse .It is all about the insurance. Plus the salvage or parts out could be greater then the aircraft

Just because CNN reported it does not mean it is official.

salvaging that aircraft would seem to be a stretch, no?
WT, C'mon. Are you kidding? It can be salvaged (saved). It's just structural damage. I foresee this aircraft back in the air before the end of this year, as long as there is not a long term hold on the aircraft by the NTSB, DOT or FAA for some reason or another. BTW, none of us know the complete and true damage to the aircraft as of yet, so let's not jump to assumptions just yet.

Wow, whatever!

I meant the NTSB part making it official about the nose gear making contact with runway before main gear. Could care less about CNN.
