State proposes work requirement for food stamps

So after all of that typing you freely admit you are a Socialist by your acceptance of a "Grant" for education?

IF you knew anything about the COTUS and the concept of original intent you'd know that the 10th Amendment delegates most power to the states.

So all of what you say is correct as far as the Federal Government goes. They don't belong in Education, Social Welfare or any of the things that they confiscate your wages for. Those roles belong to the states. If Rhode Island wants to build the best social safety net, Fine. Let the citizens of the state fund it. If it's a good system it will attract people and business to that state and away from others. Same with Corporate taxation and a host of other things the States should be in charge of. We should have 50 different idea incubators so that the free market can decide the best most workable solution.

Taking my money along with Dell's CLTrat, 777Fixer, Ms Tree, Southwinds and turning around and giving it to La La Land is the text book example of Socialism

He was against reform before he was for reform?

When my wife decided to change careers and become a nurse I took out a $25k loan against our house. Few more years and it will be paid off. I understand if people do not have assets but for those who do I'm not sure I agree with govt financing.

If you're referring to the appropriate role of the Federal Government in a Constitutional Republic then yes I "Get it"! Granted, it's a debatable topic and it's obvious I favor a very narrow interpretation.

For me the ONLY appropriate role for the Federal Government is the preservation of Liberty and National Defense and assistance in times of natural disaster.

So beyond those narrow confines it is the states and local governments that run the rest of the show. Social Security is a Ponzi Scheme and needs to be phased out along with the IRS. In a government that adhered to the founding documents there would be no federal food stamps or education grants as their would be no Departments of Education and the government would be small enough to not need an income tax.

Other than this please fill me in.

You worked in the airline business right?  If that's the case then you should be the last one wanting Social Security and Medicare phased out.  That's because your retirement was probably butchered in BK court and your retire medical non-existent.

So just keep pretending that you don't benefit from government programs.

This forum is filled with people that basically champion lifelong welfare yet he targets me because I got a grant to get a better job (and pay way more taxes!!!!!). Ask yourself why he is specifically targeting me for his rants. The guy obviously has severe mental problems.

Apparently the government making a profit off of my education for the rest of my life is the exact same as someone being 100 percent government dependent (by choice) for all of theirs in his eyes. I guess he missed basic arithmetic, he has an agenda, or he is an idiot. You decide.

When a worker re-training or educational grant winds up being recouped thru the incremental differences in taxable income, it's about as far away from socialism as you can get. It's a positive ROI, and a smart investment.

Unfortunately, so few grants wind up being revenue positive that people like Sparrow will lump them all together out of ignorance. But he's also got an axe to grind after losing his previous career to advancements in technology, and choosing not to accept any forms of entitlements. That's an ideological decision he's made as a Libertarian. Finding the middle between socialism and Libertarianism isn't difficult, since they're so wide apart...

I took out a loan and paid interest so that my wife could get a better job and pay more taxes.

Apparently you had the assets and/or income to support your wife. That's not always the case, but you knew that already.

My comment was not directed at you.  La La seem to always be talking about self reliance and making smart decisions.  I lived frugally, was able to purchase a house at a young age, built equity ... sold it .. bought a new house .... repeat.....  I had cash saved for a rainy day such as losing ones job.  I was able to get by with out unemployment, with out government grants.  La La was not laid off or fired like I was.  Yet he still gets to take tax money to better him self.  I do not necessarily take issue with that but lets call it what it is.  He mooched of the public teat like others he rails against. I do not know what his situation was (nor do I really care). If h hit hard times and needed government assistance then he has no room to complain since that is the situation quite a few are in. Some are able to dig out of the hole like he was able to do, some are not. Yet others made better decisions in life and never got in the hole in the first place. If he was not in hard times and just wanted a better opportunity and decided to take a government grant to better him self then shame on him for complaining about others taking government assistance.

Any way you slice it, he is a hypocrite on this matter as he is on many other issues.

Mooched?

I would hardly call 4.5 months of schooling (I paid for the rest of it myself) out of 20 years of working "mooching".

You calling anyone a hypocrite is laughable. How many LIES have I caught you in? I have lost count.

I only wish I could look you in the eye so I could call you a liar right to your face.

and some choose not to and those are the ones I have a problem with. The fact is welfare is the key to Democratic power. That is why the left defends it so much.

People would not talk badly about welfare if you did not have people sitting on the couch watching TV collecting welfare decades at a time popping out ever more dependents for others to pay for and a government all too ready to hand them ever increasing entitlements.

Welfare has its place but it is NOT to make lifelong dependents. That is MY stance. That is what I believe. I have never said anything different.

You call me a hypocrite? Read the sentence above and tell me how you define me as a hypocrite. You put words in my mouth of absolution (libtard 101) then try to use them to justify labeling me. I NEVER said nobody should ever get welfare ever, I have said, say, and will say that welfare was never meant to be a lifestyle.

You are the one supporting government raping of the working public's pocket to buy votes from the "entitled" crowd yet, come on here prattling on about freedom. If anybody on here is a hypocrite it is you and that fool 700UW.

You mooched for 4.5 weeks.  We are all so proud of you.

Not a single one unless of course you have some proof?   I know, asking you to prove something is like wishing to win the lottery but who knows, it could happen.

I wish the union BS was over so you would disappear.  Can't always have what you want.  Life is full of disappointments.

Taking a month of assistance isn't mooching by even the most conservative definition.

Mooching = taking without giving back.

Someone taking a grant to go thru a retraining program? Filing for unemployment after a termination or layoff?

Those are hardly in the same league as someone who is living in subsidized housing spending their days watching Oprah instead of working, or the millions of SNAP recipients who still find money for cigarettes.
