#1 I wouldn't pay $3.99 for a Bic Mac, let alone $4.67!
#2 Wouldn't the dude paying $4.67 for a Big Mac have to have his "LIVING WAGE" increased, in order to afford that Big Mac?
#3 In 2 years, the people slinging burgers would be complaining about only making $15/hr !
#4 Exactly how much, in dollar amount, would a McDonalds employee, frying french fries have to be paid, in order to achieve a "Living Wage" and who determines it ?
Who says prices have to go up? Have you ever heard of In and Out Burger? Starting wage is $10.50 with Insurance, 401k, etc. and has been rated high by consumers in quality of food and customer service. Your typical B.S. right wing mentality needs to be educated. Raising wages doesn't equate to prices of products being raised. Go get educated, the righties want everybody to believe that if wages go up prices go up but in reality margins go down unless you put out a product like In and Out Burger. Then, you make money hand over fist and employees can live a decent life. Don't let facts get in your way, be a sheep and believe what your boss tells you.

This has already hit me. I work at In N Out Burger and in preparation and restructuring my hours have already been cut. It's a bummer.

Holee sheeyut:

Bible verses
In-N-Out prints discreet references to Bible verses on their paper containers. These consist of the book, chapter, and number of the verse, not the text of the passage, in small print on an inconspicuous area of the item. The practice began in the 1980s during Rich Snyder's presidency,[36] a reflection of the Christian beliefs held by the Snyder family:
  • Burger and cheeseburger wrappers Revelation 3:20—"Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me."
  • Beverage cups and replicas John 3:16"For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life."
  • Milkshake cups Proverbs 3:5—"Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding."
  • Double-Double wrapper Nahum 1:7—"The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him."
  • Paper water cups (no longer in use for customers, they are now used by employees only) John 14:6—"Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by Me."
  • License plate keychain 1 Corinthians 13:13—"And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."
  • Fry Boat Proverbs 24:16—"For though a righteous man falls seven times, he rises again, but the wicked are brought down by calamity."

Family values and Christianity??

Bet Tree wouldn't eat there.

$10.50 an hour times 10 hours a week = $105.oo a week.................Whoop Whoooop..........now thats a living wage !

Are making more stuff up or do you actually have a source to back up your contention that In N Out has work schedules of 10 hrs a week?

Still waiting to see any information backing up your earlier assertion that a wage increase would require a $10 burger price.

This has precious little to do with minimum wage. What it has to do with is the fact that a Crony Capitalist out of control Federal Government has made it near impossible for the average worker to engage in "Self Help".

The deck as it is now is totally rigged except for the fact that we the people do not have to shop there, yet they do. We hear about 1% controlling the wealth. which may or may not be true. The simple fact is that YOU control 100% of the hard earned money and credit cards in your pocket. How you spend what you earn is YOUR business.

If you tnink/feel/know that company X is behaving in a manner you feel is unethical, the answer is simple, DON'T SHOP THERE! Enough people decide not to shop there because you and others encourage them not to and sooner or later the company will 1. Change it's business practices or 2. Cease to become a going concern.

This is a simple solution for any situation, if you don't like the way Target, Wal-Mart or OnbamaCare do business you simply allow those enterprises to die of starvation. Any of the three mentioned FAIL epically if you keep your credit card in your pocket.

Regular part-time store associates will be entitled to holiday pay for the fixed holidays based on their average hours worked over the 12 months preceding the holiday.

Vacation Benefits
Vacation is earned on an accrual basis and can be taken after 90 calendar days of employment. Part-time Associates accrue vacation at a rate of 1 week per year based on the number of hours worked.

All this touchy feely concern for  people who chose to work at Wm, but I see not one ounce of empathy for those in many other venues who are being bumped to part time to deal with Obamascare.

Frequently asked questions
Here are answers to some of the most common questions we get about wage subsidies:
Why do I get a wage subsidy?
Wage subsidies are paid by the government to help some candidates get back into work. This can include people with a range of different personal circumstances, including parents with carer responsibilities, mature workers and young people who have been doing study or training before starting work.
When do I receive a wage subsidy?
You’ll receive your subsidy after the candidate has been with you for 14 and then 27 weeks.
How much do I get?
The amount is based on the needs of the candidate as well as the needs of your business.
Will I receive a wage subsidy for any position?
Not every position is eligible for a wage subsidy and you also have to hire the candidate for a minimum number of hours each week. Your Mission Australia Employment Solutions Consultant can tell you more.
Will the candidate be able to do the job?
Mission Australia Employment Solutions provides training and skills development. This helps our candidates to develop their skills and make them job ready, confident and able to add value to your business.
What can the wage subsidy be used for?
Wage subsidies can be used to cover areas such as staff training, on-site mentoring and wage assistance, although there are no hard and fast rules. Once you receive the wage subsidy, it is up to you to use it in any way that benefits your business.
In addition, Mission Australia can also help with tools, equipment and uniforms (where this is not provided by you as a standard condition of employment).
Is there anything else I need to know?
Wage subsidies are paid to you after the candidate has been working for you for at least 14 weeks. You are also required to pay all wages and meet all other entitlements for your new employee as required by state or federal law including superannuation, insurance, occupational health and safety and taxation. The job you provide should also be ongoing.

Australia’s minimum wage
by Russ Roberts on March 1, 2013
in Work

A number of people have asked me (Russ) about Australia’s minimum wage. It’s $15.96 an hour. Yet the unemployment rate in Australia is only 5.4%. The implication is that maybe the minimum wage doesn’t have the effects it is alleged to have.
Could be–maybe the laws of economics don’t apply to Australia. Or maybe the laws of economics don’t apply in countries that start with an “A.” Or maybe the world is a complicated place and you have to think carefully about how it works.
My first thought is to wonder how the minimum wage is enforced. Does it apply to all jobs? I know it doesn’t apply to all ages at the same rate–younger workers confront a lower minimum wage:

For junior employees, the minimum rates are:
Under 16 years of age $5.87
At 16 years of age $7.55
At 17 years of age $9.22
At 18 years of age $10.90
At 19 years of age $13.17
At 20 years of age $15.59.

But still, every one over 20 years of age earns at least $15.59 per hour? Shouldn’t that lead to more unemployment than 5.4%?
I would think so, given my understanding of Australian standards of living. And if the law applies to everyone and is enforced. Is it? I don’t know. Here’s what the government web page for the Australian minimum wage say:

The national minimum wage acts as a safety net for employees in the national workplace relations system to provide minimum rates of pay for employees not covered by awards or agreements. National minimum wage orders are made by the Minimum Wage Panel of the Fair Work Commission.

Hmm. What is an award? Here’s some help:

How to find an award
Which modern award (or other arrangement) am I covered by?
The 122 modern awards replace thousands of federal and state based awards, so finding your modern award can be complex. It will depend on factors including the relevant job type and duties, any exclusions that apply in the modern award and what your previous federal or state award (pre-modern award) was.
You’ll need to know which award covers you to use many of the tools on this website.
To work out your pay rates, you will most likely need to know both your modern award and your pre-modern award. There are a number of ways you can locate your modern award:
use our online tool Award Finder
browse our A-Z of modern awards
use the Fair Work Commission (the Commission) Draft Awards audit spreadsheet

One thing I’ve learned. I don’t know enough about Australia’s labor market regulations but it doesn’t appear to be anything remotely like what we call a market here in the US.
And it turns out that unpaid work is on the rise among young people in Australia–what we call an internship here in the US–a way of avoiding the minimum wage–somehow the minimum wage applies unless you pay ZERO. In which case it’s OK.
Here’s a charming excerpt from a recent government study of unpaid work:

The report extrapolates that, if the trend in unpaid internships is left unchecked, it is likely to gather pace as it has done in other countries like the United States, where employers are forced by their competitors into a ‘race to the bottom’. However, the report also notes that concern about unpaid work arrangements, especially as they impact on
young people, has become a focus in other developed economies in recent years, especially since the Global Financial Crisis. In the United Kingdom, for instance, the present government has made a concerted effort in recent years to end any exploitation and to ensure fair access by all to the labour market.
