It's really as simple as each pilot looking at every offer we have seen from the company and comparing it with NIC and doing the math.
So far the east is better off with LOA 93 than they are with any offer we have seen and the huge seniority hit that NIC supplies. The change in the age 60 rule didnt help the pilot list merging cause either. most of the top 500 that the west guys like to bring up from nic should already be gone by now. For most east pilots implementing NIC would hurt their income more than sticking with 93.(as well as quality of life). Nic would probably be palatable if there were fences in place to protect the retirements from each side etc. But at present, to be blunt, I am better off with 93 when you look farther than 3 months from now. NIC would probably cause me to have to resume commuting, could possibly bump me to a lower paying position, would affect my bidding power for QOL and family time etc. (no bump and flush, but the loss of the retirement movement equates to the same thing for us) Even F/O retirements on the east is a huge help right now for equipment and base selection, NIC would negate even the benefits we get from an F/O leaving.
Is there a pay figure that would allow the east guys to vote for NIC? Sure there is, but you will never see it offered from Tempe. I am guessing that it would be in the neighborhood of 1999-2001 pay rates or a bit better, full restoration of vacation and bennies etc. But the west has never seen anything close to that kind of pay and Tempe will never agree to something like that. So here we are.
In short, the best offer we have seen is Kirby + NIC. I am better off with 93, so 93 it is until Tempe wants to get serious about doing something. This is what is discussed in the east cockpits, not who will be captain or WB drivers or whatever. It really is that simple.
