Thanks Doug: US Outsourcing 7 cities

Thanks for the charts Crash Pad, interested reading for sure!

Callaway since you seem to have all the answers. Why in today's market has the average compensation of a ceo risen to 500 times that of the average worker?! In 1980 it was 40 times that of the average worker. Why the continued growing disparity? There must be an explanation..lol
I have seen this CGolf guy answer every question except this one?

I would like to hear the spin on this one.

Why should anyone care about a pay disparity? What business is it of anyone to tell someone else how much they can or should make (employer to employee relationships notwithstanding)? Wages are paid, or should be at market rates. If a person's skills are considered entry level that anyone else can do without much training, then they would naturally get entry-level pay. If a person has highly specialized skills that are also in high demand, then he would get paid a wage that is commensurate with those skills and that demand.

Tom Hanks is a highly-skilled and in-demand Hollywood superstar. Should he not get paid more, and substantially more, for what he does than the extra who walks across the street in the background of one of his movies? The difference is based on skill, demand and the amount of value he brings to the financial equation. Americans would be much better off by not focusing on what certain people make but rather by doing everything they can to better themselves and the skills they can offer. That way they can be compensated by a wage that meets their reasonable expectations. And if a person doesn't like the wage they are offered, they can always go into business for themselves and earn as much money as their skills and ambition will allow for.

Because it shows how corporations are trying to get away with paying labor as cheaply as possible and handing over all the profits to managament. A ceo and hollywood superstar cannot be compared. The AMERICAN PEOPLE decides which hollywood superstars make the big money! A ceo gets chosen by the board of directors whether they are deserving of it or not. I am all for a person being an individual to choose their own destiny and ceo's should always be paid the big $$ but the growing disparity is has gotten out of hand and is wiping out the middle class. Out of the millions of workers not all can be a independent business moguls, there are only so many businesses that can be operating, you have to have labor being paid a respectable wage for society to thrive and not raise anarchy.

You are describing an entirely different situation than letting free markets operate in the arena of wages and prices. I am a strong believer in limited government, but I am not an anarchist who believes government has no legitimate role to serve. Government should be about doing for everyone equally what they cannot logistically do for themselves. For example the general public cannot logistically build roads and bridges for private and commercial travel, so this is a legitimate function of government because every citizen has the opportunity to benefit from the public project. Likewise, passengers have no ability to evaluate the airworthiness of an aircraft and would likely do more damage if they tried to inspect the plane themselves. Thus government should establish standards and monitor commercial aviation for safety compliance. Again this is a potential benefit to all citizens and it is legitimate for government to do so.

However, these examples are quite different than the government getting involved with telling business how much to pay their workers or that they must accept collective bargaining of workers which is not a legitimate function of government. People can negotiate their own wages without the government. Additionally every citizen cannot gain value from government intervention between an employer and an employee. Rather most of the public is actually harmed because the free market forces have been corrupted by an overreaching federal program.

With regard to toys and such, consumers have to take responsibility for their own purchases. Caveat emptor and all. Do a little research. Use common sense. Don't buy from China if you don't trust their manufacturing practices. Let private consumer advocacy non-profit groups lead the charge to help eradicate harmful products which can and do operate without government involvement. We don't need government involvement in such matters.
I do not support your ideology. I think the current condition of what used to be our middle class supports that observation.

The philosophy you have just shared with us will do exactly as it has in the past, and that is to create short term wealth for the wealthiest minority of Americans, while creating long term financial disparity for the rest of the country.

We could argue these principals forever, the fact is they are NOT working after decades of implementation and execution.

Believe me, if I were a good ol’ corporate executive on a golf course… I’d be lobbying against labor and preaching outsourcing as well. How else would I support my 500 times the average worker income?

I almost forgot, can you please provide the names of all the major retailers where I can find lots of merchandise "not" made in China. I want to try your don't buy from China suggestion.

Why should anyone care about a pay disparity?
Many third world banana republics are defined by a large "pay disparity".

The US ranks about 47, just below Uganda, but, above Rwanda. Like a high temperature, perhaps not a defining diagnosis, but certainly a place to look.

Perhaps were "upper management" not make so much, perhaps they would actually start working at making the airline a better airline rather than stocking their liquor cabinets, bragging about their latest "remodel" or paying for bastards they fathered.

The Marie Antoinette's of the twenty-first century. Some of us are looking for a contemporary Bastille.

Since you are not “a highly-skilled and in-demand Hollywood superstar.” You would be OK with outsourcing the west flying to Mesa or the lowest bidder and giving up your collective bargaining rights and negotiate your own wages

I hear Mesa has a proposal on the table concerning "west flying". Good luck, guys and girls.

I never really cared for what the rich made, as I was more worried about what I able to afford. I could find myself in some egalitarian society of equal poverty existing in a collectivist hovel or I could enjoy my house, car, food, and healthcare realizing there are some fortunate few who live on a yacht and vacation by corporate jet. Given an equal number of people, I would rather have a disapportionately smaller share of a very large pie than an equal share of tart.

I guess in the spirit of staying on the topic, for those experiencing the lastest round of furloughs, and everyone's desire to make more money, I stumbled across an interesting Census report on the value of education in terms of income earnings potential: http://www.census.gov/prod/2011pubs/acs-14.pdf
Page 3, those with a high school diploma average $34,197 full-time (what's the fleet service topped-out hourly wage?) vs. $57,026 full-time for those with a bachelors degree or better. Might be something to consider for those caught-up in last week's corporate pruning.

So Advises Jester.

I never really cared for what the rich made,

You should care, the rich are very, very, very concerned about what YOU make. In fact, they are concerned enough to spend millions, and form political action committees to ensure that you remain expendable to outsourcing.

Thanks for making my point. Onerous government regulations, punitive tax policies against corporations and those who produce wealth, and union shortsightedness are the exact reasons why Made in America products are so hard to find. Eliminate these and manufacturing and jobs will return to the US. Keep following these liberal, socialist policies and jobs will continue to be lost and the middle class on down will pay the ultimate price. Strengthen American and every class will experience unparalleled prosperity. The rich will stay rich with our current policies and probably increase in wealth as they have the resources to gain from more than just the American economy. We have had these idiotic liberal policies and have attempted to transfer countless trillions since the beginning of the "Great Society" and we have nothing but a $14+ trillion debt to show for it. Talk about a philosophy that is not working!

Bingo.

They really like to play on the riff that trailer trash like us really might make the big time. Right! Even if we did, they would never let us move into their neighborhoods.

Don't kid yourself. Class envy really doesn't translate backwards. The rich are not malevolent sociopaths trying to keep people down. Most are likely focused on what every American should be focused on - making more money for themselves. If every American was properly focused on making the most out of their own life and continually improving their skills and earning potential, then everyone would have an excellent chance of growing in wealth and financial security. Liberal politicians and union leaders don't want people to better themselves, they prefer to have a group of unwitting and unmotivated people who think they need them to make their lives better. This promise of a better life without actually having the ability or desire to deliver improvements is the source of their power. If you don't like your situation or the fact that companies will not sit still while their profits are eroded by liberal foolishness, then get rid of the liberals and the unions. Or you can just keep deceiving yourself that rich people and corporate executives are the source of your problems. It is a position born out of ignorance, but at least that is a freedom that has not been taken away so far.

I figured you go political on me... let me say this, I'm not LIB, not GOP, not TEA. I'm pro worker and thus pro USA. Dude, what kind of proof do you need that outsourcing is NOT working??

And yet outsourcing continues. What kind of proof do you need that unions are the primary reason why companies outsource and transfer as much labor-based work to foreign nations where the economics actually work? Americans have proven over and over again they will buy Chinese products by the cargo ship full so long as they are cheaper than American made products. Supply and demand forces at work once again.

I bring liberal politicians into the equation because without them unions would be powerless and jobs would not be lost. Want more proof, look at illegal immigration. Supply and demand once again. Why do we have millions of illegals working in America? Because people don't want to pay $5 or $10 a pound for apples or lettuce or whatever minimum wage, OSHA, and other laws would do to the price of these commodities. Farmers are stuck in the middle of having little ability to raise prices to cover their costs so they unfortunately turn to people who don't carry the same baggage as American workers who need a W2, payroll taxes and whatever. In many cases these small, independent farmers would go bankrupt if they had to pay minimum wage plus unemployment, workers compensation, FICA, Medicare and the rest of the overhead that has priced American workers out of these jobs. So Americans sit home without a job while illegals come over and have no problem finding work. These policies not hurting the rich, they are hurting the heart of America - the rest of us who actually have to work or we won't be able to pay our bills. Shameful.

Dude, it’s been real, thanks for the all the advice. However, I must politely decline to consider it as valid information.

I have an early morning tee off with Otter and Boone. We will be using clubs made in China. Remember… always follow through with the swing.

Happy outsourcing…
