Just a note to thank the Red Shirts out there for keeping our aircraft up in superb order. Just got back from an AMS trip where we shot a CAT III Auto-land approach and got in on time when half of the other airlines arriving (notably NWA in DC-10/747 Rope-Starts) were either holding or diverting.

Also of note, the passengers really were pleased when they got on the ground and saw the weather. So thanks again to all our wrench benders for keeping our aircraft second to none when it comes to reliability.

Cheers,
Z

I agree. We do have a great group of employees at this airline and I believe our reliability and service is starting to make a difference. At least that is what I am telling myself 😉

Ditto. I honestly believe we have the best damn mechanics of the bunch.

Thanks for the words on having the best "Aviation Maintenance Technicians" of the bunch. To bad they decided to lay off 50% with more coming to allow them to send the word to third party "chop shops" with "unlicensed" foreign workers doing the maint. The defferal rates are at historically high levels, engine fire diverts to Syracuse last week, tire comes off at DCA this week, and the future ???

Think about it.

Thank you very much for the compliment. It sure does make it a little better coming in knowing that we count for something. But we are stretched thiiiiin. Talked to a buddy over at special route...they are gearing up for a guppy c-check line. One for sure and maybe a total of six. They are trying to scape up bodies anywhere they can find them to do the work. Looks like the OSV's are coming up short for 'ol UAL. We've got planes everywhere and your right, those stickers are piling up. The boys are doing their best, but everyone is getting a little tired. None of us are as young as we used to be. 😀

Possibly jets that had previously been slated for return?

Not sure about that either. OT Ramp was furiously attempting to put the original engines back on 40 guppies that were supposed to be returns. Then all of a sudden some engineer or who ever e-mailed everyone on uni and said they were not going to do anymore? And well, they haven't seen the engines or planes since. According to a friend of mine in training, he is supposed to help special route gear up for the c-check line and is on call to go to ORD, possibly an M-check line is headed there and that will help alot of people keep jobs 😀 They are already short at SFOMM so supposedly no movement from there. They need another 30+ for the LCC A320 retrofit, so there are some more people staying. They are going to stretch the C-check line to 7 days instead of 3 because there are just not enough people to do all this work. But looks like no one will get called back until when and if we emerge from BK. The word is the OSV can't handle the work, neither on time, budget or quality. I don't know, just the rumors going around. The checks though are a fact, just how many we don't know yet.

Re: CAT III approach. Sure would be nice if you folks could install some sort of "sweat absorbent" material on the yoke and throttles for use during a CAT III approach. It's hard on the Uniform pants to keep wiping that palm sweat off..

Each one I ever did worked very nice - except for wear on my uniform pants as I wiped off the sweat.

Keep up the good work guys.

HEY, HEY, HEY>>>KEEP THEM HANDS OFF THE YOKE AND THROTTLES.... 😀
now was that two clicks up or down...hmmm, and why does this thing keep yapping glideslope, glideslope...pull-up pull-up

Or Vinyl seat covers.... 😛

Maybe they can find someone who can install nlg tires that wont fall off on take-off.

"NLG that won't fall off"
Nah they just have to finish writing maint manuals in a language other than English so the people that are not from America can continue to work in the jobs they take from those Americans that are laid off. This with the support of our Govt.

Recently received a letter from my congressman on this subject. He stated I did not understand the "World Economy". Maybe I don't, but I do understand being on TAX paid unemployment while my job goes to a foreigner that does not pay taxes and has laws in their country to prevent people that are "Non-nationals" from working there!!!

Boy, you sure can depend on good ol UAL people. Finally a thread about appreciating each other and just general talk and humor...then BAM....we're right back with the same group of a**holes I've hated being around my whole career here. From 101,000 people with a lack of character to 61,000, and yes, since I'm here, I am included. Shame on me...
