Do you think they'll see the light of day and if so, when will we start receiving them?

I'm not going to guess as to whether US will indeed take them or not (my gut says yes, for what it's worth), but I can tell you for sure that they're scheduled for delivery in 2009 and 2010.

Without looking it back up, I think 2009-2010. I also believe they can be converted to A350's, which wouldn't be available till 2011.

It was my understanding that those A332s will completely replace the B767 fleet, so I wonder if that's still the plan? Also, the 330-200 has significantly more range advantage over the -300, so US could perceivably venture out across the Pacific with these airplanes...PHX-NRT perhaps? 😉

If the new US wants to compete in the Asia market, they better beef up their business class product. The Asian carriers blow everyone else away with their service, amenities, etc.

Before going over the Pacific with 332s, I would think a better market to start up would be PHX/Europe. My guess would be PHX/FRA will be first to tie in with the Star Alliance. PHX/LGW,MAN would be excellent markets as well. The agents in LGW have told me the 2 most flown to destinations out of LGW are LAS and MCO. Florida can be fed through CLT and PHL, but LAS easily could be fed through PHX.

BigBus -
If LAS is such a hot destination from LGW, then why not LAS? - rather than PHX. It seems US would be in a unique position to make this work with a hub in LAS, albeit a small one.

You're right. LAS would be a great destination from LGW. But landing slots at LGW are very difficult to get. There would be more feeder going to/from the larger hub. Now MAN/LAS would be a great market. LAS is the number one destination from there.

LGW slots are not hard to get. They hold a slot lottery 2x a year for the following "season" where any carrier who wants can enter. Getting a good time can be difficult however.

Rumor LAX Recall US EAST AMT's? And 330 Parts Going To PHX? hummmmmmmmm(across the Pacific with these airplanes)
May Be Parts Of The Big Picture????

LGW slots are hard to get, US had to wait to restart service after the termination of the wet lease with BA to get back into LGW from CLT.

Senator Helms had to get involved.

I know that US has or had at least 2 flts out of PHL but what about say moving one of those PHL to LAS for a LAS-LGW?

too much money made and load factor too high to give up PHL/LGW. But I'll bet Tempe is working hard to get a decent slot for PHX/LGW to add to the network. Also I'll bet they're doing the same for PHX/FRA. This would be a powerful link up with the Star Alliance.

Silly question, but if the 332s are meant to replace the 767s, then why are we discussing new routes? Won't they need them to fly the existing routes that the 767s cover?

I enjoy speculating about new routes as much as the average bear, but a little reality is needed.

No Tempe is not.
